Former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (36-3 with 30 knockouts) will enter the ring for the first time in nearly a year when he takes on Gabriel Rosado (25-12 with 14 knockouts) on Friday night at the Seminole Hard Rock casino in south Florida. The undercard for this event will start at 8 p.m. ET, and Jacobs and Rosado are expected to get started a little after 11 p.m. ET. This card will be available exclusively through DAZN.

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this fight, but Jacobs is expected to be a heavy favorite given his track record. Jacobs could be around a -1500 favorite, meaning that you would have to wager $1500 on him to win $100. That would lead to Rosado being installed as a +900 or so underdog, so a $100 wager would return $900.

Rosado doesn’t have a gaudy record, but he isn’t a slouch either. He has challenged for the middleweight championship twice in his career, losing to Gennady Golovkin and Peter Quillin in 2013.
Overcoming adversity is something that Rosado has done throughout his career. He didn’t run up a big string of wins like so many top boxers did to start their professional careers, as he was 15-5 five years after his debut. His wins over Jamaal Davis, Keenan Collins, Jesus Soto Karass, and Sechew Powell led to a few minor titles before he challenged GGG in January 2013.
We saw Rosado lose five straight fights starting with the seventh round TKO at the hands of Golovkin. He has essentially traded wins and losses since that point with a 4-3-1 record over the last five years. All but one of those bouts went to the cards, so this fight has a good chance of going the distance.
Jacobs has been one of the best middleweights in the last decade, although he has been somewhat overlooked due to the success of GGG and Canelo Alvarez. He won his first 20 fights as a professional, leading to a title shot against Dmitry Pirog. Jacobs was knocked out in the fifth round, but he used that loss to steel himself for future success.
That defeat was followed by eight straight knockout wins in the fifth round or earlier, culminating with a fifth round TKO of Jarrod Fletcher for the WBA middleweight belt. Jacobs successfully defended that belt four times (knocking out Peter Quillin in the first round in the process) before facing GGG in a unification bout. GGG won a unanimous decision, but it was relatively close with Jacobs losing 115-112, 115-112, and 114-113 on the scorecards.
After that loss, Jacobs seemed to lose some of his prodigious power. He won his next three fights by decision, and Jacobs only won the IBF middleweight belt over Sergiy Derevyanchenko by split decision. That set up another unification fight, this time with Alvarez, and Jacobs lost another close unanimous decision.
