Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin Preview
Whyte has deceptive speed and quickness for a heavyweight. He was a kickboxing champion and an MMA fighter before turning to boxing, and that allowed him to pick up a huge win in his very first fight as an amateur. Whyte turned a lot of heads when he beat current unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua by unanimous decision in three rounds.
That helped lead to a short amateur career, as Whyte knew he could thrive as a professional. Due to his brief time as an amateur, it took a while before he received a title shot though. He won his first 15 fights to set up a WBC Silver International title bout with Brian Minto, and Whyte knocked out Minto in the third round. As a result, he earned a chance to take on Joshua once more as a professional. Whyte suffered the only defeat of his career, losing by TKO in the seventh round, but he was Joshua’s toughest competitor up to that point.
Since that loss, Whyte has been on a tear. He won four minor belts before taking on Oscar Rivas last July for the vacant WBC interim title. Whyte won that bout by unanimous decision, and he dispatched of Mariusz Welch in similar fashion on the undercard of Ruiz-Joshua II in December.
Povetkin ran his record to 21-0 before receiving a title shot, defeating Ruslan Chagaev by unanimous decision to win the WBA heavyweight title in 2011. He successfully defended the belt four times, winning three of those bouts by knockout and surviving a tough test from Marco Huck. However, he was no match for the greatest heavyweight of the 21st Century, losing a unifying title fight to Wladimir Klitschko in 2013.
It took no time for Povetkin to get back to his winning ways though. He won his next eight fights to earn another shot at glory, facing Joshua in September 2018 with four belts on the line. Povetin lost by TKO in the seventh round, echoing the same loss that Whyte suffered three years earlier. The former champion bounced back with a win over Hughie Fury, but he had to settle for a draw against Michael Hunter on the same card as Whyte and Joshua in December.
Total Rounds Betting
The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds. Total betting rounds odds will be available soon so be sure to check back. Total betting rounds odds is a wager on how long the fight will last. Let’s say if the total rounds betting line is Over 11.5 Rounds -200, that means that if you think the fight is going to go all 12 rounds, for you to win your bet you would need to bet $200 to win $100. Conversely if you wager Under 11.5 Rounds +150, you would need to risk $100 to win $150. As long as the fight did not go past the 11th round, you would win the under.
