The first time that Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev met in the ring, there was a pretty big disagreement among the judges regarding who won the fight. While the vast majority of observers thought that Pulev controlled the action and deserved the victory, he had to settle for a split decision win. Two of the judges scored the fight 118-110 and 116-112 in favor of Pulev, but one of the judges gave Chisora a narrow 115-113 win. Pulev (29-2 with 14 knockouts) wants to leave no doubt in this rematch with Chisora (32-12 with 23 knockouts), and he is a moderate favorite per the boxing betting odds.

Derek Chisora vs Kubrat Pulev Preview
Former heavyweight title challenger Derek Chisora looked like he would be a superstar early in his career. Chisora won his first 14 fights and became the British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion before losing both belts to Tyson Fury. He proceeded to lose to Robert Helenius five months later, but he still was selected for a heavyweight title shot against Vitali Klitschko in early 20212. Chisora was no match for Klitschko though, and he was knocked out by David Haye in his next bout.
Chisora won his next five fights to climb the ladder once again before losing to Fury for a second time. He put together five consecutive wins after his fifth loss to face Kubrat Pulev for the European heavyweight belt, and he lost that bout. Chisora also lost to Dillian Whyte twice over the next couple years, essentially putting a cap on his ceiling as a fighter.
While Chisora is still able to headline fights, he hasn’t won in the ring since October 2019. He has lost three straight fights heading into his rematch with Pulev, falling to Joseph Parker twice and Oleksandr Usyk.
Kubrat Pulev doesn’t have the same raw power as Chisora, but he is a much cleaner fighter all around. Pulev won his first 13 fights before challenging for the IBF International heavyweight belt, and he won a unanimous decision over Travis Walker. He successfully defended that title five times and tacked on the European heavyweight belt before facing Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF and The Ring heavyweight straps. Unfortunately, he was no match for Klitschko and suffered a fifth-round knockout.
Pulev didn’t let that loss keep him down for too long, winning his next eight fights. That set up another title shot, and he was 28-1 heading into his title fight with Anthony Joshua in December 2020. Joshua carried the IBF, IBO, WBA, and WBO heavyweight belts into the match, and he scored a ninth-round knockout to send Pulev home empty handed.
The favorite is the play in this match. Pulev should be a bigger favorite since he won the previous bout and is a better technical fighter. Although he is 41 years old, Pulev has a six-inch reach advantage, and that will allow him to keep Chisora on the back foot.
