Josh Warrington may be the defending International Boxing Federation World featherweight champion but you’d hardly know it if listening to challenger Carl Frampton. Frampton has hardly been shy about his criticism of Warrington and gamblers seem to agree with him as the champion is an underdog to retain his title belt. Frampton has an impressive body of work in which he is the only Irishman to ever win two world championships in two different weight classes. But in Warrington he will be facing an undefeated champion.

Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton Fight Preview
The war of words has been heated between Carl Frampton and Josh Warrington with the defending champion Warrington predicting a knockout win and Frampton accusing him of arrogance as a result. In fact, Frampton described Warrington’s comments as “outrageous.”
“I don’t necessarily have a dislike for Josh Warrington,” said Frampton. “But I think there is something bubbling beneath the surface and he is a bit more arrogant than he lets on.
“It’s just a few things that I have seen recently and its starting to seep out. Maybe he is getting a wee bit carried away with this world title and fair play to him because he is a world champion and he is entitled to be proud of that,” continued Frampton.
Frampton is particularly irritated with Warrington’s promise to knock him out in this championship fight.
“He is getting a bit too carried away though and I think there is a bit of arrogance in there that he is trying his best to keep away from the public. It is just a few wee things that he’s said,” said Frampton. “He said he’s going to knock me out and he doesn’t need to say that.
“It is a bit of an outrageous comment coming from a guy who has had as many knockout wins as I’ve had world title fights. I don’t think he needed to say that.”
Frampton also tired to downplay the comments after issuing his complaints stating that “I’ll just do what I’ve always done and I’ll respect opponents if I’m respected,” he claimed. “I take it all with a pinch of salt and carry on thinking about myself and my own performance. I don’t get caught up in it all, but we’ll see, as it gets closer and he gets a bit more on edge he may say a few things that aren’t that savory. It doesn’t bother me.”
Yet for not being an issue that bothers him Frampton certainly spent a lot of time venting on the issue.
Most important of all is the substance of this bout. The winner of what is being called the “Battle of Britain” could land a unification title shot at World Boxing Organization featherweight champion Oscar Valdez.
Frank Warren, who serves as promoter for both Frampton and Warrington, said that unification title bout is in the works.
“Carl and Josh are both winners,” said Warren. “They are both coming off good results. They are both world class and I believe the winner of this fight will go on to unify the title.”
