Fight Preview

Nonito Donaire is feeling well prepared for his upcoming fight against Zolani Tete and he is looking forward to a shot at a unified title. Donaire is no stranger to championship fights or belts but his enthusiasm remains a strong as ever.

“Lafayette, Louisiana is definitely going to be an experience,” said Donaire. “There is so much culture all over the United State and I am blessed to be a in a tournament that allows me to visit a different state. I’ve heard the food is amazing and I can’t wait to try it out after the fight.”

Few names in the sport are as big as Nonito Donaire and the “Filipino Flash” is celebrated for his lightning quick hand speed and punching power.

Donaire last fought on November 3, 2018 when he scored an RTD win over Ryan Burnett after Burnett’s back gave out in the fourth round of the bout. Since then Donaire has been training hard for his unification bout against Tete.

“Training started about two weeks after the Burnett fight,” said Donaire. “We didn’t know when the fight would be scheduled but we knew the opponent so we stayed head on for Tete. I implemented new training methods that we haven’t tried before and have had a smooth training camp in Las Vegas.”

Donaire gives Tete plenty of respect in analyzing his chances in the title fight. “Tete is a formidable opponent,” said Donaire. “He is tall, he is fast, he is slick, but I am a fighter that can fight any kind of style. I can’t wait to show the crowd what we’ve been working on. I’ve got a lot of respect for Tete. He’s a smart boxer, rangy and strong. The plan is to break him down and figure him out as the fight goes on. I can be aggressive and crowd him or I can box from a distance. He has length and that’s something we want to neutralize.”

Yet while Donaire has paid his respects to Tete he is also confident of ultimately winning the bout. Donaire makes no bones about the fact that he will do whatever it takes to defeat Tete.
