Tyson Fury was originally a -1800 favorite against Otto Wallin, but the boxing betting line has moved significantly in the last few days. More and more people are jumping on the former undisputed world champion as he faces a virtually untested foe.

Fury first stepped into the limelight almost four years ago. He had been wrecking challengers in England for some time, but his bout with Wladimir Klitschko propelled him to stardom. Fury defeated Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Germany to win all five heavyweight belts, yet he didn’t hold them for long. Multiple issues led to Fury abdicating the belts before a title defense and he didn’t fight for two years and eight months after taking down Klitschko.

His first fight after returning to the ring was against Sefer Seferi, and he had little trouble beating the Albanian. Fury next defeated Francesco Pianeta, setting up a major bout with Deontay Wilder. Wilder and Fury had a tremendous fight, but the result was a draw, so Wilder retained his title. The two have been looking for a rematch ever since that decision, but it has yet to happen. In the meantime, Fury stayed fresh by pummeling Tom Schwarz in two rounds in June.

As for Otto Wallin, the Swede is undefeated at the age of 28, but he is very raw. Wallin did not fight outside of Europe until this year, and his one match in the United States didn’t last long. He accidentally headbutted Nick Kisner in the first round of a fight in April, and the subsequent gash was so bad the fight was declared a no contest.

Wallin was supposed to fight 40-year-old BJ Flores in July, but the bout was cancelled the day of the contest after Flores failed multiple medical evaluations. He hasn’t fought an actual bout since April 2018, so he is a major wildcard.

Fight Preview

The challenger is looking to pull off an upset that would send shockwaves throughout the heavyweight ranks. Wallin was asked about his thoughts last month, and he said:

"Anybody can get knocked out in the heavyweight division, that's why it's so exciting," Wallin told Sky Sports.

"Fury showed a good chin and a lot of heart in that fight (against Deontay Wilder), but maybe those shots have taken something out of him too."

Some have criticized Fury for selecting the relatively unknown Wallin to be his opponent in this fight, but Fury dismissed that criticism:

“Anybody who wants to criticise Otto Wallin, please take a punch off him in the face and then come and tell me how it feels,” Fury said.

“The guy is 6’6” and ranked number four by the WBA.”

Wallin has already dedicated the fight to the memory of his father. Shortly before the fight with Fury was announced, Wallin’s father passed away suddenly due to a heart attack. His dad was his mentor and his trainer, and it would be a beautiful story for Wallin were to overcome the boxing betting odds to pull off an incredibly upset.

Boxing Betting Tips

While an upset would be incredible, it’s not likely. Fury appears focused and in shape once more, and his power will be enough to overcome Wallin’s reach. Look for Fury to win by knockout against Wallin.
