Peter Quillin Vs Alfredo Angulo Betting

On September 21, two veteran super middleweights will face off at the Rabobank Theater in Bakersfield, California. Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’ Quillin will be a sizable favorite on the boxing betting line against Alfredo ‘El Perro’ Angulo. Quillin is 34-1-1 with 23 knockouts to his credit over the course of his career, while Angulo is 25-7 with 21 of his victories coming by knockout. This bout is scheduled to last 12 rounds, but it is likely to be decided before the final bell.

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this fight, but Quillin will almost certainly be a moderate favorite. The 36-year-old began his career in 2005, and he quickly established himself as an up and comer. He won 11 of his first 12 fights by knockout and ran his record to 27-0 before getting a title shot in October 12 against WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam.

Quillin was impressive against N’Dam N’Jikam, beating the champion by unanimous decision to earn the strap. He defended his belt with a 7th round TKO over Fernando Guerrero in April 2013, and he followed that up with a 10th round TKO over Gabriel Rosado in October 2013. Quillin finally had a title defense go the distance when he took on Lukas Konecny, but he won by unanimous decision.

That was Quillin’s last title defense. He put off a fight against mandatory challenger Matvey Korobov twice, and when the WBO declared that he would lose his title if he didn’t fight him, he decided to surrender the strap. Quillin’s next fight didn’t occur until April 2015, but he showed up overweight and was unable to fight for the title when he took on Andy Lee. The result was a split decision, so Lee would have held onto the strap regardless.

Quillin won his next match, beating Michael Zerafa with a 5th round knockout, but he was stopped cold for the first time in his career in December 2015. Daniel Jacobs beat Quillin by TKO in the first round, and that led Kid Chocolate to take an extended break. He didn’t return to the ring for 21 months.

His last full fight occurred in August 2018 when he beat J’Leon Love by unanimous decision. He attempted to box Caleb Truax twice after that, but the first fight was declared a no contest in the second round due to an accidental headbutt, and the second bout was called off after Truax injured himself in training.

Angulo began his career 15-0 before losing to Kermit Cintron, but he responded after that by reeling off five straight wins. He claimed the WBO light middleweight title in November 2009, and he successfully defended the strap three times before losing by TKO to James Kirkland in the sixth round in November 2011.

It’s been a roller coastal ride for Angulo since the loss to Kirkland. He has won five bouts and lost five of his bouts. He lost three straight fights at one point over this stretch and lost two bouts in a row before knocking out Evert Bravo in the second round in April.

Fight Preview

Quillin is ready to go and prove himself once more. He told the media: "It looks like the Caleb Truax fight wasn't meant to be, but this fight against Angulo is an important fight for me to establish myself in this division, "I'm ready to go 12 rounds right now. I just have to stay ready and stay in shape because we've had a great camp where we were able to build on certain things. This is what was meant to be and I'm going to make the most of it with a great performance on September 21."

As for Angulo, he’s just grateful for the opportunity and said: "I am looking forward to showing my fans the best Alfredo Angulo on September 21. I have been working hard towards this opportunity. This is a chance to move closer to a world title and with hard work and the support of my team, I'm going to win that title."

Boxing Betting Tips

This fight is not going to go the distance, and it is probably going to be decided by knockout. Quillin is 36 and Angulo is 37, and neither boxer has enough gas in the tank to go a full 12 rounds. In his career, 75 percent of Angulo’s fights have been decided by knockout one way or the other, and he hasn’t had a 12-round fight since May 2009. With that in mind, take Quillin and the ‘under’ for rounds if it’s in double digits.
