Fight Preview

Marcus Browne has made his views quite clear in regards to his upcoming WBA title defense bout Jean Pascal. As a matter of fact, he is predicting to end the fight quickly and in devastating fashion.

"Don't blink, I'm knocking his ass out," said Browne at the opening press conference for this fight at the Barclays Center.

For his part Pascal doesn’t seemed fazed, or at least does not admit to be so.

"He sounds crazy with that early knockout talk,” defied Pascal. “In his last fight he couldn't finish off a man who was bleeding from one of the worst cuts I've ever seen and you're stopping me early? C'mon bro, be for real. And that's his best win by far.I deal with facts. I've been there done that. I've fought and beaten better fighters than Marcus Browne, he's just a regular guy to me. [He's] good, not great...nothing special at all. I'm undefeated against southpaws and it will stay that way come August 3rd. I hope he fights like he's talking and doesn't turn into the octopus he's been since the amateurs when I put that heat on him."

Indeed, Pascal is back on track for a shot at a championship but there are concerns that he is past his prime and stepping way up in class as far as his current abilities. In essence Pascal is fighting two opponents in both Browne and Father Time.

In Marcus Browne the fact remains that Pascal will be facing one of the best fit, trained and elite boxers of any class in the world. Browne has hit his prime and that may not bode well for Pascal. Browne brings speed, power, endurance and the ability to apply punishing knockouts. Beyond that Browne is a former United States Olympic boxer that is looking for a shot at a unification title.

The rock in Browne’s shoe is a charge of domestic violence with an upcoming court date. Another domestic violence charge cost him a shot at a title fight against World Boxing Organization champion Sergey Kovalev in June of 2018. There are some worries about Browne’s focus for this fight as a result. Additionally, there are concerns that Browne could be taking Pascal too lightly for this fight.

"I’m a better fighter overall now,” said Browne. “I’m constantly growing as a fighter and come August 3; I’ll display that on an even higher level. It’s very important to do well and further stamp my status in this division against Pascal. He feels like he hasn’t lost to any lefties, so I’ll be his first. He keeps saying he has a lot of gas left in his tank, so I’m going to have to show him who I am, and send him packing."
