Boxing Odds – Francisco Vargas vs. Miguel Berchelt II Betting Preview

Francisco Vargas vs. Miguel Berchelt II

Ever since losing his title belt to Miguel Berchelt, Francisco Vargas has had one thing on his mind. He is out for revenge and to reclaim the title belt that he has always believed to be his and his alone. Berchelt vs. Vargas II is one of the most highly anticipated bouts of the year so far. These Mexican Countrymen will face each other at the Convention Center in Tucson Arizona on May 11. In the first matchup between these two champions Vargas sustained facial cuts that ended up forcing the fight to be called in the 11th round, much to the displeasure of Vargas. Since that time, he has made it a point to heal his wounds, both physical and mental, as he awaited the rematch chance at Berchelt.

The World Boxing Council World Super Featherweight championship will be on the line May 11, 2019 at the Convention Center in Tucson Arizona when champion Miguel Berchelt (35-1, 31 knockouts) faces challenger Francisco Vargas (25-1-2, 18 knockouts) in a scheduled 12 round bout that can be seen on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.

Fight Preview

Francisco Vargas has never gotten over his loss to Berchelt and has stewed for two years about getting another title shot. Promoters saw a rematch as the ultimate no brainer that would be an easy sell with plenty of story lines and appeal.

“Their last fight was a good one, but it was stopped because of the cuts,” said Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez. “Berchelt has gotten better, and now we will see where Vargas is. Vargas is tough, and he is always game. He wanted thus fight and we’ll see if he can overthrow Berchelt and regain the title.”

“The last fight between Francisco Vargas and Miguel Berchelt was a war,” continued Gomez. “Vargas came up short that night, but its his only loss. Since then, he’s gotten a lot better by training with Joel Diaz, so I’m even more confident now that Vargas will get his belt back.”

The first fight between Berchelt and Vargas was highly acclaimed for all of the action that it produced. But most observers felt that Berchelt took over the fight in the later rounds and was dominant at the end.

If Berchelt can get the win in this rematch he would likely get closer to a unification lightweight title shot against the famed pound for pound king Vasiliy Lomachenko later in the year.

“Francisco Vargas is a great Mexican warrior, just like I am,” said the defending champion Berchelt. “I am training at my best to prove once again that I am not only better than him, but that I am the best 130-pounder in the world.”

Vargas had to have surgery to remove scare tissue after his loss to Berchelt due to severe facial cuts. He will be stepping into the ring after a 13-month layoff to heal.

“I have no doubt that 2019 will be my big comeback year,” said Vargas. “The three wise men came bearing gifts, and one of them is my highly awaited rematch against Miguel Berchelt on May 11. Like I said before our first fight, Mexicans never back down, and I will show that again once in the ring. “

Boxing Betting Tips

Vargas may talk about his wise men and a major championship comeback but the fact remains that Berchelt has proven to be a worthy champion.
