Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia Betting

While most observers and the gambling public see Errol Spence Jr. as a prohibitive favorite to retain his welterweight championship belt against Mikey Garcia there are more than a few bargain hunters that may disagree. Spence is the current International Boxing Federation world welterweight champion but will be facing a proven champion in his own right as Garcia has current possession of the International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Council light weight title belts. Garcia has won championships in different weight classes and is considered one of the top pound for pound boxers on the planet. Neither Spence nor Garcia has ever lost a fight. Fight Preview

Errol Spence Jr. will be making his third title defense when he faces Mikey Garcia. Not only is Spence facing the challenge of a true championship fighter but the perception that Garcia’s much smaller size will make it a cakewalk. For his part Spence vows that he is not taking Garcia lightly nor underestimating him due to his size.

“You can tell how I looked 10 weeks ago compared to how I look now,” said Spence. “I’m not overlooking Garcia. I’m in tip top shape, slim and ready. The difference is that now in a pay per view fight you have to be more dedicated and focused to promote the fight, showing that you are a star in boxing and sports media.”

It may surprise some that neither Spence nor Garcia have ever been in the ring for a pay per view event. That is despite the fact that both are proven world champions and in the top ten as far as best pound for pound boxers.

Spence has been training hard for the bout and his trainer, Derrick James, has been most complimentary of his efforts.

“This has been a tremendous camp,” said James. “I’ve seen how hard Errol has world and how motivated he is. He’s extremely confident, and rightfully so. I know Mikey is going to come prepared, but so are we. Whatever Mikey brings into the ring we’re going to have the answer.”

For his part hard work is what Garcia will be relying on to spring the upset.

“Look, I’m not a natural big welterweight, and also, I’m never expected to be a natural guy like that, but you can always try to bulk up a little bit more mass and that’s all I tried to do,” said Mikey. “I didn’t try and stretch my body into The Hulk. I’m comfortable, and I feel good, I feel fast, and I feel strong.

“I’m prepared to do anything it takes to win. I’m sparring these big dudes,” continued Garcia. “I’m holding my own. They tell the coach that I’m stronger. ‘He’s not big, but he’s strong’.”

This is where the risk comes in for both fighters. For Garcia he will be stepping up TWO weight classes for this fight. For Spence he will be facing the most talented opponent of his career and a loss would be catastrophic for his career.
