Erislandy Lara vs. Ramon Alvarez Boxing Betting Picks

Erislandy Lara has never gotten over his loss to Saul Alvarez. On July 12 Lara faced Canelo at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and lost a split decision in the 12-round bout. Lara believes he got the better of Canelo and that he should have won. It was indeed a highly disputed decision. In a conversation with Gennady Golovkin the two shared the frustration of how difficult it is to win a decision against Canelo, especially in Las Vegas. Still Lara wanted another shot at him. However, promoter Oscar De La Hoya insulted Lara and told him to go to the back of the line. Instead he will have to settle for Canelo’s brother Ramon Alvarez.

FOX and FOX Deportes will present the vacant World Boxing Association World Super Welterweight championship fight between Ramon Alvarez (28-7-3, 16 knockouts) and Erislandy Lara (25-3-3, 14 knockouts). This fight will take place on August 31, 2019 and will be held at the Minneapolis Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This championship bout is scheduled for 12 rounds.

Fight Preview

Although he had to settle for a matchup with Canelo’s brother Ramon, Lara has tired to consul himself with the fact that it is still against a member of the Alvarez family.

“This fight against Ramon Alvarez is personal for me, as I have history with the Alvarez family,” said Lara. “Expect another great fight and a spectacular performance.”

Lara responded well to his loss with Canelo as he won the World Boxing Association world super welterweight title and the next five fights that followed. But a tough split decision loss to Jarret Hurd cost him the title belt. Hurd stole the belt with a 12th round knockdown that changed the scorecards to his favor.

In his next bout that followed Lara met Brian Castano on March 2 and the fight was another close one that ended in a draw. Of little consolation was the fact that it was named “Fight of the Year.”

Alvarez is the older brother of Canelo and will be fighting in the United States for just the second time in his career. The matchup with Lara is the biggest of his career and an opportunity he vows to take full advantage of.

"I am very excited for this opportunity to fight for a chance at the world title," said Alvarez. "I've worked hard my whole career for a fight like this and I'm going to take advantage. My brother beat Lara a few years back and I'm going to be the next Alvarez to beat Lara."

Should Alvarez pull off the upset the Alvarez brothers would become the first Mexican trio in history to win world championships.

Training camp has gone well for the aspiring champion.

"We are working hard, the motivation in camp is not lacking,"Alvarez said. "We areat the speed stage, we are doing a great camp and still doing sparring, buteverything isgood. The idea is to work by cutting offthe ring inthe event hewants to box, and ifhe wants to fight, we will also be prepared for that too. There are many who say that Erislandy is not the same as he was before, but I do not place my trust in that, I must be ready for anything,"

Boxing Betting Tips

There may be some truth that Lara is not the same since losing the title belt. But Alvarez has never fought at this level against such a high caliber opponent.
