Boxing Odds – Erislandy Lara vs. Brian Castano Betting Preview

Boxing Odds

Erislandy Lara is a past world super welterweight unification champion that lost his title belts a year ago in a tough split decision to Jarrett Hurd. Since that time Lara has been prepping for a major comeback to atone for the loss and to regain his championship status. As a well known and highly respected past champion Lara will be expected by many gamblers to regain his past glory. But Lara’s chance for redemption will not be easy as he will be facing current World Boxing Association champion Brian Carlos Castano. Castano has never lost a fight and has often looked dominant in the process.

Fight Preview

Erislandy Lara suffered a close loss to Jarrett Hurd last April 7 for the world super welterweight unification championship. Yet he maintains a level of respect that most boxers would be quite envious to have. Promoter Loui DiBella said it best:

“Erislandy Lara is one of the most talented junior middleweights in the world, and while Brian Castano is not yet a household name, he was a world renowned amateur and is undefeated as a pro. This is a must win fight for Lara and Castano’s chance to establish himself as one of boxing’s rising stars.”

Lara is a native of Cuba that defected to the United States and now resides in Houston, Texas. He was the longest active reigning champion of the super welterweight class before his upset loss to Hurd. It was a split decision defeat that was action packed and remembered as one of the best fights of the year for 2018.

Lara is best regarded for being a strong technical boxer that will have to go back to those very fundamentals in order to defeat Castano, who is still not as respected or well regarded as Lara. As for Castano he has never faced a boxer as accomplished as Lara.

“I’m thrilled to be facing Lara as he was a great champion and still one of the best fighters out there,” said Castano. “Obviously this is the most important fight of my career and I know it will be difficult because of his experience. I have my own experience, however, and I’m willing to prove that I belong with the best in the division. I know he will get onto his bike and move around the ring, but I have the strength to knock him off.”

Tom Brown, President of TGB promotions, touted this bout as one of the most intriguing in quite some time. “Erislandy Lara has long been one of the best, if not number one, in the 154-pound division and he will look to get right back into that class by taking the WBA title from a hard-hitting Argentine in Brian Castano.”

Lara is anxious for the opportunity to prove himself. “I’m very excited to be back, headlining Showtime in another major fight,” said Lara. “Brian Castano is a young undefeated champion with a strong amateur pedigree. I look forward to being in the ring with him and putting on a great fight for the fans. I can’t wait to be crowned world champion again.”
