Alexander Povetkin vs Dillian Whyte Boxing Betting

We are finally going to see a rematch between Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte on Saturday, March 27. This rematch was originally supposed to take place on November 21, 2020, but the match had to be postponed due to Povetkin testing positive for COVID-19. Eddie Hearn was hopeful to get these two heavyweights in the ring in Manchester on February 20 and then again on March 6, but neither date worked so he took the fight to Gibraltar where it now has the catchy title, “Rumble on the Rock”.

Povetkin (36-2-1 with 25 knockouts) scored a fifth-round TKO over Whyte (27-2 with 18 knockouts) in their first meeting on August 22. Whyte was a significant favorite per the boxing betting odds, and he won the first four rounds before Povetkin stunned him with an uppercut in the fifth round. Povetkin had been sent to the canvas twice in the first four rounds, so that shot came out of left field and led to a surprising result.

This fight will be available on DAZN in the United States and Sky Sports in Europe. The main event is slated to start at 5 p.m. ET.

When: Saturday, March 27, 2021

Where: Gibraltar

Why: WBC interim heavyweight title

Alexander Povetkin vs Dillian Whyte Betting Odds

Alexander Povetkin +260

Dillian Whyte -327

Total Rounds 7.5

Although Povetkin won the previous meeting, Whyte is a moderate favorite per the boxing betting odds since he controlled the first four rounds of the bout. If you are unfamiliar with betting on boxing, these odds mean that you would need to wager $327 to win $100 on Whyte at this price. A $100 bet on Povetkin as the underdog would return $260 if he were to pull off the upset once more.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Alexander Povetkin vs Dillian Whyte Preview

Povetkin has been one of the top heavyweights in the division for the last decade. He won the gold medal at the 2003 World Championships in Bangkok and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and he also claimed two European Championships as an amateur.

Despite that success, it took him six years to receive a title shot. Povetkin was 21-0 before he faced Ruslan Chagaev for the WBA heavyweight belt, and he won a unanimous decision to claim that title. He successfully defended the belt four times before taking on Wladimir Klitschko in a unification bout for all the marbles. Unfortunately, he was no match for the veteran Klitschko, suffering his first defeat in a unanimous decision loss.

Incredibly, it took Povetkin another five years to receive a second title opportunity. He beat eight fighters (six by KO) in that stretch, but his toughest competition was Christian Hammer until he stepped into the ring with Anthony Joshua in September 2018. Povetkin was unable to beat Joshua either, getting stopped in the seventh round for the second loss of his career.

Povetkin settled for a split decision draw against Michael Hunter on the undercard of the fight between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua that saw Joshua reclaim the heavyweight belts. That led to oddsmakers looking past him against Whyte, and perhaps Whyte did too.

Whyte sustained just the second loss of his career against Povetkin. The accomplished kickboxer took a while to come to boxing, but he has been one of the most fearsome competitors since taking up the Sweet Science. He was 16-0 before he suffered his first defeat at the hands of Joshua in December 2015, but he has been on an upheld trajectory since that loss.

We saw Derek Chisora give Whyte a run for his money the following year in a split decision victory for Whyte. He secured an 11th round KO of Chisora two years later, setting up a title fight with Oscar Rivas for the WBC interim title. Whyte won that belt by unanimous decision and then took down Mariusz Wach before his loss to Povetkin.
