2014 Winter Olympics odds: The 2014 Winter Olympics are just about here! Though there are a number of events competed on the Olympics betting odds in which there are qualifying stages and medal rounds, there aren't many which include multiple events. The Nordic combined is one of the few, and it is almost a bit like the biathlon. Skiers will compete in both cross-country skiing and ski jumping in the Nordic combined, one of the tougher combinations of events to pull off in the Winter Olympics.
This is also one of the only sports, regardless of whether we are talking about the Winter Olympics or the Summer Olympics, which is only for one gender. Men are the only ones who compete on the Olympics gambling odds in the Nordic combined, and their events are broken down into three different categories.
The principal of the Nordic combined is that prospective skiers will first do their ski jumping. There are two different categories in which the jumps are graded. You get one jump, which is graded for distance and style. You get two points per meter which you travel in the air and anywhere from three and 30 points for the style with your jump. Each point is equivalent of 6.67 seconds for the race portion. The skier with the most points from his jump will be off in the 10 kilometer race first, and all others will start behind him based on the number of points which they accumulated in the jump. If you finished 15 points behind the leader from the ski jump, you will start a minute after him. Needless to say, every single point counts on the ski jump.
The first of the two men's events for the Nordic combined are both individual events. On Wednesday, February 12th, the men's individual normal hill competition is started, and it is finished a few hours later. The second of the events is on Tuesday, February 18th, and the only difference is that the hill is bigger which the skiers will jump from, making the number of potential qualifying points that much higher, and putting that much more emphasis on the ski jump.
The final of the runs on the Olympics wagering odds is the men's team large hill relay. There are four men on your team, each of which will jump, and the combination of the points for the four men is added together. In the team relay though, one point is only worth 1.33 seconds instead of 6.67. Once the points are tallied, the race begins, as the four skiers each take their shot at a five-kilometer sprint. A total of 20 kilometers are traveled by the four men, and the first team to reach the line wins.
The United States dominated in the Nordic combined last year, taking four of the nine medals. Johnny Spillane took silver medals in each of the three events, including in the team competition. Austria took the gold in the team large hill challenge, and Bernhard Gruber led the way with as the anchor of the team competition, as well as the silver medalist in the individual large hill.
