2014 Olympics Ice Hockey Betting Odds2014 Winter Olympics odds: Olympics betting action is about set to get started at BookMaker Sportsbook. There isn't an aspect of the 2014 Winter Olympics which we aren't breaking down, and that includes each of the disciplines of the Olympics. Today, we'll look at one of the most important sports of the Olympic Games - Ice Hockey.

There is no sport that will garner more attention in the Winter Olympics than ice hockey. The women's Olympics betting lines won't garner nearly as much attention, but the men already have betting lines up for all of the individual matches in the first stage at BookMaker Sportsbook.

The men's and women's tournaments are very similar, yet due to the fact that there aren't as many teams on the women's side, things are a bit different.

The women's tournament might be the easier one in which to make your Olympics betting picks. The Americans and the Canadians clearly have the two best sides, and it would be stunning to see any other team aside from one of these two making it into the Gold Medal match on Thursday, February 20th.

The women have eight teams cut into Group A and Group B. You play each team in your group once, meaning you play three games which count towards your standings. All eight teams will go onto the knockout rounds, but the teams which finish third and fourth in their groups will only be playing against each other for final classification from fifth through eighth. The top two teams in each group will go into a knockout tournament, where the winner of Group A will be the runner up in Group B, while the winner of Group B will play the runner up in Group A. From there, the winner of those two matches play against each other in the Gold Medal match, while the losers face off for bronze medals.

The men's tournament is a bit more complex. There are three groups of four teams in the men's bracket, and all 12 will ultimately go onto the knockout round with a chance to win medals. However, the tournament bracket ends up looking a bit convoluted. The winner of each group and the top second place finisher will all get byes into the quarterfinals of the tournament. Seed 5 will play Seed 12, 6 will play 11, 7 will play 10, and 8 will play 9 in the opening knockout round. From there, it is an elimination-style tournament, where the winner goes on, and the loser is knocked out.

The competition here for the Olympics is intense, as the athletes around the world are absolutely as good as they have ever been. The United States and Canada faced off in the finale four years ago in Vancouver, and C Sidney Crosby scored the biggest goal of his career, the game-winner in overtime in a 2-1 game which earned the Canadians the gold medal on home ice.

The Swedes are always a team to watch out for, but the hometown heroes from Russia are surely going to be tough to eliminate as well with 12,000 at the Bolshoy Ice Dome almost all going to be clad in red. Even though Canada is the favored side per the current Winter Olympics betting odds, the Russians aren't all that far behind, and few would be shocked if they ended up taking gold and winning the tournament.
