2014 Olympics Freestyle Skiing Betting Odds2014 Winter Olympics odds: The 2014 Winter Olympics are just about here! Before some of the best athletes on the planet get together to do battle for their country, we here at BookMaker Sportsbook are going to be looking at one of the best events to bet on the Olympics betting odds in Sochi, Freestyle Skiing.

Freestyle skiing is one of these events that probably belongs more in the X-Games than in the Olympics, though it became an Olympic sport for the first time in the 1988 Calgary Games. There are 10 different events within this discipline in which you can bet on the Olympics betting odds.

There are five different sports within freestyle skiing, and the events range from February 6th, the day before the Olympics starts, through February 21st. Each sport consists of two time slots of events. Most are done in morning and evening sessions which are at least three hours apart from one another. The initial event - the women's mogul - is separated out over two days, the first of which occurs on February 6th; the medal rounds don't occur until February 8th.

The first event is the mogul. Mogul skiing is essentially skiing through a bumpy field in which the athletes perform tricks to get points. Points are based on the amount of time which the track takes to complete, the amount of turns which are executed, and the amount of time which the skier ends up in the air. The points are tallied, and the Top 20 will get through the qualifying stage to move on to the finals, where the scores are wiped out and started clean. There are generally only around 30 skiers, so getting through qualifying isn't the toughest thing in the world, nor does it necessarily mean that the one you played on the Olympics gambling odds is guaranteed to do well in the finals when the medals are on the line.

Slopestyle is the next event. This is the first time that Slopestyle is being used as an Olympic event, though it is a popular event at the Winter X-Games. The idea is to get the most points based on skiing on the slopes instead of just on a choppy field. The more time spent in the air and the more varying tricks which are used, the more points which will be scored.

Aerials are next, and these are just tricks which are based solely upon one jump. That jump is graded by its form, the amount of time in the air, and how clean the landing was stuck. A dozen will qualify for the finals on both the men's and women's side.

The halfpipe and ski cross are the final two events of the Olympics wagering odds for freestyle skiing. This is the first time which halfpipe has been used in the Olympics after being a part of the X-Games for years. Essentially, this is just going back and forth on a half of a pipe and doing tricks off of that, and the judging is done based on form and degree of difficulty of the routine.

Ski cross is a race rather than an adjudicated competition. It's essentially a race down hills. There are 32 skiers which will qualify for the elimination rounds. The 32 are cut into eight heats, in which the first and second place finishers in each heat, regardless of time, will qualify for the quarterfinals. Sixteen is trimmed to eight and eight is trimmed to four. There are races for placement from first through eighth, and three of the final four in what is known as the "Big Final" will ultimately get medals.
