2014 Winter Olympics odds: Olympics betting action is about set to get started at BookMaker Sportsbook. Today, we'll look at one of the most important sports of the Olympic Games, Alpine Skiing.
The concept of alpine skiing is one which you are probably familiar with. Skiers are trying their best to stay along a trail down a hill to get the maximum speed possible, and they are racing against each other. Here in the Winter Games, a total of 350 skiers from 76 different nations are going to get together to try to make for successful Olympics betting picks for you.
There are a total of five events for both the men and the women which will take place starting on February 9th and run through February 22nd, the final day of the Olympics.
The Downhill events are always the most fun, as the skaters get up to tremendous speeds as they go down the hills at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort in Krasnaya Polyana. These events will be held on February 9th for the men and February 12th for the women. Of course, things are really going to open up this year on the women's side of this competition, knowing that American Lindsey Vonn is out from these Games as she recovers from her torn ACL. Vonn won the gold medal in the Downhill four years ago in Vancouver, but the good news for the Stars and Stripes is that the second place finisher four years ago, Julia Mancuso, is back and will be trying to get her name in lights.
The Americans also have one of the top dogs on the men's side of the Downhill as well. Bode Miller is one of the more recognizable names representing the United States in the Olympics, and he is sure to be getting multiple medals this year in Sochi as well.
The women's Super Combined and men's Super Combined will take place on February 10th and February 14th respectively, while the women's Super G and men's Super G will be on February 15th and 16th. The Giant Slalom is up next on the 18th and 19th for the women and men respectively, while on February 21st and 22nd, the Olympics betting lines wrap up for alpine skiers with the women's Slalom and the men's Slalom.
Most of the skiers will end up partaking in at least most of the events, if not all of the events. Miller, for example, was the bronze medalist in the Downhill, the silver medalist in the Super G, and the gold medalist in the Super Combined in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Vonn not only won the gold in the most prestigious of these events, the Downhill, but she was also the bronze medalist in the Super G.
Keep an eye on the German women on the Olympics betting odds. Viktoria Rebensburg won the gold medal in the Giant Slalom four years ago, while Maria Riesch took gold in both the Slalom and the Super Combined. Slovenia's Tina Maze was a runner up in two different events, while Austria had three different women grab medals in Vancouver.
On the men's side, Aksel Lund Svindal won medals in three different events, while Ivica Kostelic won silvers in both the Slalom and the Super Combined.
