Marin Cilic wins the Kremlin Cup

The 26-year-old Croat, a career-high eighth in the ATP rankings fired 10 aces in a 6-4, 6-4 victory, his first ever meeting with Bautista-Agut. Cilic thus became the first Croat to win in the Russian capital since his coach Goran Ivanisevic took the Kremlin Cup title in 1996.

In reaching the final he also booked his spot in the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London. Second-seeded Cilic broke his rival's serve halfway through the opening set before serving it out in 46 minutes. He started the second set with an immediate break.

Bautista-Agut, 16th in the world, who was playing his fourth career final, fought tooth and nail to try to break back but Cilic held his nerve to win his fourth ATP Tour crown this year and the 13th of his career.

At the award ceremony Cilic promised to come back next year to defend his title.

Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova lifted the women's title

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia claimed the WTA title at the event by beating Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 in two hours and 28 minutes. The women's final got off to a nervy start that produced seven breaks of serve in the opening set before the 30th-ranked Pavlyuchenkova managed to settle down.

The Russian pocketed the set in 50 minutes but it was Begu, playing in her fourth WTA Tour final, who dominated the second set to break serve twice and level the match.

In the deciding set Pavlyuchenkova again moved up a gear to break twice for a commanding 5-0 lead, taking her to the seventh title win of her career.

Gasquet wins Kremlin Cup, nears World Tour Finals invitation

Richard Gasquet burnished his chances of making the ATP World Tour Finals with a three-set win Sunday in the title match of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow. Gasquet, the No. 1-seed in the tournament, edged qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 Sunday, closing the title with two breaks in the final three games of the match.

Gasquet battled through breaks in each set. Kukushkin had the only break of the first set but Gasquet came back with two breaks in the second to even the match. Kukushkin took the advantage in the third set but Gasquet rallied in a long game for a break that left the player 4-4 in the third.

Gasquet held serve and then claimed his fourth break of the day to claim the Kremlin Cup title.

Halep claims WTA's Kremlin Cup, fifth title of 2013

Simona Halep collected her fifth WTA title with a straight-set win Sunday over Samantha Stosur at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow. Halep, seeded fifth, had the seventh-seeded Stosur on the defensive much for the day, piling up 18 break chances during her 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 victory. Halep converted one of her 12 break opportunities in the first set before taking the tiebreaker and finished off three of her six in the second for the win.

She ended up winning 51 percent (45-of-87) of the points off Stosur's serve while winning 62 percent on serve with a dropped service game in each set.

It was the fifth WTA championship for Halep, who won her first title in mid June. Counting that tournament win in Nuremberg, Germany, Halep is 35-6 in 11 events the second half of this year.

Only world No. 1 Serena Williams who's won 10 times this year, has more championships than Halep in 2013.

2012 Kremlin Cup Winner - Andreas Seppi trounces Thomaz Bellucci to capture the crown

Second seed, Andreas Seppi, battled past the Brazilian star, Thomaz Bellucci, in a three-set thriller at the Kremlin Cup by Bank of Moscow 2012 on Sunday. He summed up a 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 victory against the fourth seed to capture his second year-to-date title at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 Series event held in Moscow, Russia.

The seeded Italian displayed exceptional skills to outclass Bellucci in their third encounter. After registering success in two hours and 25 minutes, Seppi improved to a 2-1 lifetime in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head Series against Bellucci and captured his third career title. The veteran conquered the Serbia Open in Belgrade earlier this season (downed Benoit Paire).

Seppi stated in a courtside interview after overpowering the Brazilian:

"It is very special to win this title as I remember Yevgeny [Kafelnikov] winning so many times here and he was my idol growing up. I saw him a few times this week but I was too shy to ask him anything. It has been a great season for me, winning titles is so special, now I have won on all surfaces and that means a lot."

The 28-year-old made a drastic entry at the Olympic Stadium. However, he made an epic comeback and eventually stole the limelight.

Bellucci made quick in-roads at this indoor hard court event. He cashed the lone break chance in the fourth game and jumped to a 4-1 lead. The Brazilian blocked the only breakpoint he faced and pulled out the opener by winning six games to three.

Ranked 22nd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Seppi carried his losing ways in the following set. He gifted away his serve in the seventh game and went 3-5 down. The Italian recovered in 10th game but failed to serve out the set. However, Seppi not only snatched his break back in the final game but prevailed in it, eventually sealing the equaliser with a 7-6(3) win.

The Italian veteran unveiled his true colours in the final set. After Bellucci held his serve in the fifth game, Seppi reeled off last four games and clinched the decider with a 6-3 score line.

With this victory, Seppi received 250 ATP ranking points and pocketed $121,500 in prize money.
