Juan Martin Del Potro beats Roger Federer in Swiss Indoors final
Top seed Juan Martin Del Potro retained his Swiss Indoors title with a 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 6-4 victory against home favourite Roger Federer in Basel.
A sixth Swiss title for world number six Federer would have sealed his place at next month's ATP World Tour Finals in London for a 12th successive year.
The 32-year-old, who has won only one title in 2013, produced some vintage moments but could not deny Del Potro his fourth ATP Tour 500 title in a calendar year.
The Swiss now has to beat Kevin Anderson or Mikhail Youzhny in his second-round match at the final qualifying event in Paris next week to ensure one of the eight places at the 02 Arena for the World Tour Finals, which would equal Ivan Lendl for the most successive appearances at the season finale.
Dominic Inglot and Treat Huey win Swiss Indoors doubles title
Great Britain's Dominic Inglot kept alive his hopes of reaching the ATP World Tour Finals as he and Treat Huey won the Swiss Indoors doubles.
The pair beat Austrians Julian Knowle and Oliver Marach 6-3 3-6 10-4 on a match tie-break in the final in Basel.
Inglot, 27, and Filipino Huey, 28, need to reach the final of next week's Paris Masters to qualify for November's World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London.
Britain's Jamie Murray and Australian partner John Peers could also qualify.

Del Potro beats Federer to win Swiss Indoors title
Juan Martin del Potro took Roger Federer's Swiss Indoors title on Sunday, beating the hometown favorite 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/3) in the final.
Del Potro showed an impressive all-around game to help avenge a heartbreaking loss to Federer in the Olympics Games semi-finals in August.
Federer, who won the event in five of the past six years, was seeking his 77th career title to tie John McEnroe at fourth on the Open Era list.
Federer later pulled out of his defense of the Paris Masters, which started yesterday, to rest and prepare for the ATP World Tour Finals in London the following week.
