Tennis Betting Online: The Moselle Open is one of the newer tournaments on the ATP Tour, as it was only founded back in 1980 and has only been a fixture on the calendar since 2003. There are only a total of 28 players who come and play in this ATP World Tour 250 Series event, most of which are French or from nearby France.
This year, the Moselle Open runs from Monday, September 19 through Sunday, September 25 at the Arenes de Metz.
Not surprisingly, when you're talking about a tournament held in France not long after the U.S. Open, you're going to have a glut of French players and not a heck of a lot else, especially considering the fact that the wealthier St. Petersburg Open is going on at the same time. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gilles Simon have absolutely dominated this event in the past, combining to win five of the last six Moselle Opens. Both were in the finals last year for the second time since 2013. Simon won the first battle. Tsonga took the second.
It's not that we haven't seen the best men in the world play in the Moselle Open, though. Novak Djokovic won this championship in 2006, while Andy Murray was the runner-up to Tommy Robredo in 2007. Stan Wawrinka, then ranked No. 4 in the world entered the Moselle Open last year, and he very well could elect to do so again in 2016.
The difference between this year's Moselle Open and the ones of the past is that the top players in the world also have one more major tournament to play in August that isn't normally on the calendar. The Olympics aren't particularly long, but they do tend to take a lot out of the players. Essentially, take anyone who had a really deep run in the U.S. Open save for the French players out of the equation and toss in a bunch of other middling players who wouldn't normally have shots at winning tournaments, and that's how you're going to get to the makeup of the 2016 Moselle Open.
