2014 Pure Michigan 400 Winner - Jeff Gordon wins Pure Michigan 400

Jeff Gordon won at the Michigan International Speedway. The driver of the No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet SS was the first to the checkered flag for the Pure Michigan 400 ahead of Kevin Harvick after leading 69 laps of the 200 lap race.

The Pure Michigan 400 began with Jeff Gordon on the pole while Joey Logano also proved he would be a factor early on. Kevin Harvick finished second for the second consecutive race at Michigan, followed by Logano, Paul Menard and Earnhardt.

Clint Bowyer, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Johnson and Greg Biffle rounded out the top 10.

It was the third Sprint Cup victory of the season for Gordon's, which also won at Kansas Speedway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, tying Gordon with Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the series lead. It's the first time in three years that the four-time series champion has at least three wins in a season.

2013 Pure Michigan 400 Winner - Joey Logano makes Chase move after key win at Michigan

Joey Logano, the happy-go-lucky Penske Racing driver, burst into laughter when he heard the question.

A news reporter wanted to know how far Logano had come since being viewed as a villain in some NASCAR circles after a March crash led to former teammate Denny Hamlin breaking his back.

Villain or not, Logano and his No. 22 Ford team already have been through a surprising amount of trials together in their brief marriage. There's been the Hamlin rivalry; the pit road fight with Tony Stewart in Fontana, Calif., after he blocked Stewart and later wrecked Hamlin; the NASCAR penalties at Texas Motor Speedway (which cost the team 25 points and saw crew chief Todd Gordon suspended for two weeks); and a couple of wild swings in the Sprint Cup standings.

2012 Pure Michigan 400 Winner - Biffle wins Pure Michigan 400 at MIS

At a track known for its long green flags and in a month known for brutal heat, Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway certainly appeared different.

In a race that featured eight cautions, cooler weather and an owner searching for a win on the track he formerly owned, Greg Biffle quietly won a race highlighted more by who didn't win.

Rochester Hills native Brad Keselowski took second and Kasey Kahne finished third on the newly paved track. June's winner, Dale Earnhardt Jr., finished fourth.

On lap 183 of the 200-lap race, Keselowski took the lead to lap 190 when Jimmie Johnson passed on the inside. Johnson held onto the lead until lap 194, when a sudden engine failure caused him to pull out of the race and lose the lead at a track at which he has yet to win.

A caution was brought out after Johnson pulled into the garage, and that allowed Greg Biffle to take the lead that he would not relinquish.

But for Biffle, who took the lead in the?Sprint Cup points standings with the victory, the focus of the win was less about his out-of-nowhere performance and more about his owner.

Jack Roush had waited seven races since his last victory in the Irish Hills, after a period where he had a driver win at least once between 2002 and 2007.

2011 Pure Michigan 400 Winner - With Michigan Win, Busch Clinches Chase Spot

Michigan finally unrolled the welcome mat for Kyle Busch, the first official member of the 2011 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Busch got his first Sprint Cup Series victory at Michigan International Speedwayin his 14th start at the 2.0-mile track, holding off Jimmie Johnson in a green-white-checkered-flag finish to win Sunday's Pure Michigan 400.

Busch beat Johnson to the finish line by .568 seconds to claim his series-best fourth victory of the season and the 23rd of his career. Busch kept Johnson winless at Michigan, one of five active tracks on the Cup circuit where the five-time champion hasn't been to victory lane.

Brad Keselowski continued his recent surge with a third-place run, followed by Mark Martin and Ryan Newman. Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth completed the top 10.

Busch clinched his berth in the Chase by virtue of the fourth win, which guarantees him at least a wild-card berth in NASCAR's 10-race playoff. He also claimed sole possession of the series lead, by 10 points over Johnson, after Carl Edwards finished 36th because of electrical problems and dropped from a share of first to fourth in the standings.

Harvick wins 2010 CARFAX 400

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick and crew chief Gil Martin were joking on the radio about where Gatorade Victory Lane was located following Harvick's victory in the CARFAX 400 on Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.

Harvick eventually found Gatorade Victory Lane and celebrated his first Sprint Cup Series win at MIS. His only other victory at MIS was in a Nationwide Series race in 2003.

With his victory, Harvick becomes the first driver to secure a spot in the 10-race 'Chase for the Championship.' He currently holds a 293-point lead over second place Jeff Gordon with three races to go before the Chase.

The victory also gave owner Richard Childress his first Sprint Cup victory at MIS since Dale Earnhardt Sr. won here in 1990, a span of 20 years.
