2018 Kobalt 400 At a Glance
Racetrack: Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, NV
Track Length: 1.5 miles
Total Laps: 267
Auto racing in Las Vegas wasn't really all that popular 20 years ago, but upon the construction of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, things really changed. The hope for the Kobalt 400 is that racing fans from all over the country, particularly those who live in areas that are still cold in the early portions of the spring, would want to flock to the City of Lights for the third race of the NASCAR season. That's exactly what has happened.
Even though the Kobalt 400 is one of the younger races on the NASCAR schedule dating back to just 1998, it has already evolved into a very popular event, especially notable considering the fact that this race is being held during the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

The early history of the Kobalt 400 has had some interesting results. Normally, the early-season races are dominated by the top teams, namely Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports. But JGR hasn't found Victory Lane in the Kobalt 400 since 2013, while HMS last took the checkered flag here in the March Las Vegas race in 2010. That said, both teams have had plenty of success, though that success hasn't come lately.
The other thing we've seen a lot of in the history of the Kobalt 400 is degrees of dominance. Brad Keselowski, for example, has won two of the last three editions of the Kobalt 400, while Jimmie Johnson was a back-to-back-to-back winner in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Roush Fenway Racing drivers picked up wins in the first three editions of the Kobalt 400 as well.

For a race that is just 19 years old, it's amazing to think that there are five men who have won the Kobalt 400 at least twice. Jimmie Johnson paces them all with four wins, including his aforementioned three-peat from the mid-2000s when he was on his dominant run in NASCAR. Most recently though, it's been the "Jet Ski," Brad Keselowski who has been the best driver, taking the Kobalt 400 checkered flag in 2014 and 2016.
The recently retired Carl Edwards, Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth are the other multi-time winners of the Kobalt 400.

Only relatively recently have we seen some other teams get in the fold in terms of reaching Victory Lane at the Kobalt 400, but for the most part, the winners of these races have been either members of Roush Fenway Racing or Hendrick Motorsports. These two teams combined to win the first four editions of this race, as well as 10 of the first 11 and 13 of the first 15, though it should be noted that there hasn't been a Hendrick or Roush driver win the Kobalt 400 since Carl Edwards won this race for the second time in his career in 2011.

Chevrolets typically dominate in the manufacturers race, but in this case, it's Ford who has won more Kobalt 400s than anyone else. This is a tremendous occurrence and one that you don't see much of in the active NASCAR races, but Ford has nine of the 19 all-time wins in this race followed closely by Chevy with seven. Toyotas, particularly those of Joe Gibbs Racing, have been especially disappointing with just two wins all-time in this race, the last of which came in 2013.

How to bet on Nascar Kobalt 400
The odds of a driver to win the Kobalt 400 will generally look something like:
- Jeff Gordon + 200
- Mark Martin + 250
- Jeff Burton + 300
- Bill Elliott + 700
- Robby Gordon + 700
- Field + 500
These betting odds will be lower when betting on a driver to finish in the top three, as the sportsbook must pay off three different winning bets.
A player would have to bet $10 to win $20 that Jeff Gordon will win the Kobalt 400, while the bettor wagering on Bill Elliott stands to win $70 on their $10 wager.
Another commonly placed bet in NASCAR is head-to-head finish between two drivers. With this bet, a player doesn't really care what place the driver finishes in, as long as the driver finishes higher than the other driver.
A head-to-head betting line for the Kobalt 400 will look something like:
- Mark Martin - 130 Jeff Burton + 110
In this bet, players wagering on Martin to finish higher than Burton will be asked to risk $13 to win $10, while bettors believing that Burton will finish higher than Martin will bet $10 to win $11.
Those familiar with sports betting will have no trouble making the transition to NASCAR wagering, while those new to the world of sports betting should be able to pick up the concepts of NASCAR betting without too much hassle.
