Auto Club 400 Betting OddsNASCAR Betting Online: Is there anything bad to say about Southern California? The weather is virtually always perfect, the atmosphere is stunning, and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana might as well be the Daytona of the West Coast. The Auto Club 400 is one of these races that is always competitive; it's just the nature of the big oval tracks in NASCAR. You're certainly not going to want to miss this one.

Catch all of the high-speed thrills and chills of the 2018 Auto Club 400 on Sunday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. ET live on FOX.

Racetrack: Auto Club Raceway, Fontana, CA
Track Length: 2 miles
Total Laps: 200

Fontana is one of these tracks that hasn't quite had a firm spot in the rotation on the NASCAR schedule since ultimately becoming a permanent fixture in 1997. This race has been run in the middle of June, early in May, late in April, and it even spent a few years as the race following the Daytona 500 before settling into its new role at the end of March, typically during the second week of the NCAA Tournament.

Changed too, was the distance of this race. Originally, Fontana had 500-mile races, yet the Auto Club 400 was changed in 2011 to a 400-miler and has stayed that distance ever since. But don't think for one moment that we're guaranteed to only have 400 miles when the day is said and done with. Thanks to a slew of cautions over the course of the last three years toward the end of the race, we've seen de facto overtime needed with green-white-checkered finishes. In 2015, it took two attempts to finish the race, and the drivers ended up covering 209 laps and 418 miles.

You've got to have a really big name to ultimately find your way to the finish line first at Fontana. Go back and look at all of the drivers who won the Auto Club 400. There's just one in the history of the race who didn't finish that year in the Top 12 in the NASCAR standings, that and was Jeremy Mayfield in 2000. Ever since then, the drivers that have ultimately won this race have gone on to do great things, and many even went on to win the championship as well.

Most Career Wins (By Driver) at Auto Club 400

Wins Driver Years
3 Jeff Gordon 1997, 1999, 2004
3 Matt Kenseth 2006, 2007, 2009
3 Jimmie Johnson 2002, 2010, 2016
2 Kyle Busch 2013, 2014

Not surprisingly with all of the big boy names we have on this list of winners, we've got some big time champions who have headed to Victory Lane in the Auto Club 400 multiple times in the past. Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson are all three-time winners of the Auto Club 400, though the argument should be made for Johnson having the best career here at Fontana thus far. His three wins were separated by eons for racing purposes, as the first came back in 2002, the second in 2010, and the third a whopping 14 years after the first in 2016.

There have only been two back-to-back winners of the Auto Club 400, that being Kenseth in 2006 and 2007 and Kyle Busch, the only other two-time winner of this race, in 2013 and 2014.

Most Career Wins (By Team) at Auto Club 400

Wins NASCAR Team Years Won
7 Roush Fenway Racing 1998, 2003, 2005-2009
6 Hendrick Motorsports 1997, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2016
3 Team Penske 2000, 2001, 2015
2 Joe Gibbs Racing 2013, 2014

The only real surprise here is that Joe Gibbs Racing has only sent one of its big time drivers to Victory Lane at the Auto Club 400, that being the aforementioned Busch. That said, JGR is one of the four teams to win the Auto Club 400 more than once. Team Penske picked up consecutive wins in 2000 and 2001 then sent Brad Keselowski to Victory Lane in 2015, while Hendrick Motorsports has six wins ranging from 1997 up to 2016.

But they're all chasing Roush Fenway Racing. The Roush Fords have won this race seven times to set the all-time record, including winning five years in a row from 2005 through 2009, easily the best stretch any team has had in the relatively brief history of the Auto Club 400.

Most Career Wins (By Manufacturer) at Auto Club 400

Wins Manufacturer Last Win
10 Ford 2015
8 Chevrolet 2016
2 Toyota 2014

Generally speaking, the bigger the track, the more consistent the results are for the bigger teams, but it's sort of amazing that Fontana features more Ford drivers in Victory Lane than Chevy drivers. The gap isn't substantial by any stretch of the imagination with Ford having 10 wins against Chevrolet's eight, but it's a margin that Ford will still hang onto for at least a couple more years. Toyota only has the two Busch wins that we keep referencing, and amazingly, no others.

How to bet on Nascar Auto Club 400

The odds of a driver to win the Auto Club 400 will generally look something like:

  • Jeff Gordon + 200
  • Mark Martin + 250
  • Jeff Burton + 300
  • Bill Elliott + 700
  • Robby Gordon + 700
  • Field + 500

These betting odds will be lower when betting on a driver to finish in the top three, as the sportsbook must pay off three different winning bets.

A player would have to bet $10 to win $20 that Jeff Gordon will win the Auto Club 400, while the bettor wagering on Bill Elliott stands to win $70 on their $10 wager.

Another commonly placed bet in NASCAR is head-to-head finish between two drivers. With this bet, a player doesn't really care what place the driver finishes in, as long as the driver finishes higher than the other driver.

A head-to-head betting line for the Auto Club 400 will look something like:

  • Mark Martin - 130 Jeff Burton + 110

In this bet, players wagering on Martin to finish higher than Burton will be asked to risk $13 to win $10, while bettors believing that Burton will finish higher than Martin will bet $10 to win $11.

Those familiar with sports betting will have no trouble making the transition to NASCAR wagering, while those new to the world of sports betting should be able to pick up the concepts of NASCAR betting without too much hassle.
