Jackson picked up the UFC lightweight title with a knockout of Chuck Liddell on May 26th, 2007 and he defended it with a unanimous decision victory over Dan Henderson in a subsequent bout on September 8th, 2007. Jackson had some trouble in his ensuing fights as he went just 4-5 in the following nine bouts. Rampage Jackson then dropped down to Bellator where he has been much more successful. He is 3-0 in these fights, defeating Joey Beltran, Christian M’Pumbu and Muhammed Lawal. Jackson went back up to UFC last time out and defeated Fabio Maldonado by unanimous decision.
Satoshi Ishii is 14-5 with seven wins by decision, six by submission and one by knockout as a professional. He started 12-2-1 and captured the IGF Championship with a unanimous decision over Kazuyuki Fujita on December 31st, 2013. Ishii is 2-3 in his past five fights. He lost to Jiri Prochazka in the Rizin light heavyweight tournament quarterfinals in his most recent bout on December 29th, 2015. Ishii has never fought in Bellator so it will be interesting to see how he fares, though it is a tough debut against Rampage Jackson.
Kevin Engel is a perfect 5-0 in his career with four knockouts and a submission win. He defeated Kyle Kurtz by second-round technical knockout last time out in March and will aim to remain unblemished against Chel Erwin -Davis. Erwin-Davis is 3-1 with two wins by knockout and a submission win. He defeated Adam Cella by a third-round knockout in his most recent fight.
Others scheduled on the docket include Jordan Howard vs. Justin Robbins; Joaquin Buckley vs. Chris Heatherly; Michelle Royer vs. Katy Collins and Brad Jones vs. Clay Mitchell. It’s shaping up to be an intriguing card, with the headliner of Jackson against Ishii. Jackson has the experience advantage and should be favored to win.
