He has continued to remain a dominant fighter and is currently ranked as No. 3 on the welterweight list by The Ring magazine. Thurman will look to keep his perfect record intact against Porter.
Shawn Porter comes into this bout with a professional record of 26-1-1. He has defeated 16 of the 28 opponents he has faced by knockout. Porter is a former IBF welterweight champion will be eager to get another crack at a world title. Porter is currently riding a two-fight winning streak with his most recent victory coming last June when he defeated Adrien Broner by unanimous decision. He also had a knockout victory over Erick Bone last March. Porter suffered his first and only loss of his career in August 2014, falling by major decision to Kell Brook. The loss cost him his IBF Welterweight title. The 28-year-old has also previously held the WBO NABO Welterweight and NABF Welterweight titles. And prior to moving to the welterweight division in the summer of 2010, he won the WBO NABO Light Middleweight title in February of 2010 with a decision victory over Russell Jordan. Porter has also captured wins over opponents like Julio Díaz, Devon Alexander and Paulie Malignaggi in his career. The Ohio native turned pro in 2008 and started his career at 24-0-1 before his first loss to Brook.
The upcoming title fight between Thurman and Porter was originally scheduled to take place in March, but Thurman was involved in a car accident and the event had to be rescheduled for the summer. The co-main event will feature WBA featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar taking on Abner Mares in boxing betting.
