Boxing Betting Lines: Canelo Alvarez just continues to rack up impressive victory after impressive victory in his career. He was involved in a mega-fight against Amir Khan back in May, and he's already set to get back in the ring in September to try to add another belt to his collection. The Mexican already has the WBC, The Ring and Lineal middleweight championships, and now, he has his shot at the WBO light middleweight title as well when he takes on Liam Smith.
The Smith vs. Alvarez fight will be shown on HBO on Saturday, September 17. The duel is set to be the third straight for Canelo in Las Vegas, this one coming at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Alvarez still only has one loss in his career to his credit, and he's fought at a number of different weight classes. The consummate champ couldn't beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in this very ring, though there's no shame in that defeat from back in September 2013.
Smith is still undefeated, but this is a mighty step up in his career from what he's used to fighting. He was in the ring in June against Predrag Radosevic, and that might really wasn't much to write home about. Of course, it also only lasted two rounds, so the argument could be there for Smith beat fresh.
This is also a new venue for Smith as well. Alvarez has fought in Sin City seemingly a million times before, but Smith has never actually fought outside of the U.K. He's certainly not winning any popularity contests here against the wildly popular Alvarez.
Smith is going to have to win this fight early. He's got knocked out 13 foes in his career, including eight straight men, but in all likelihood, he's the only who is going to end up with his back on the mat at the end of the night.
