He captured his most recent victory on November 21st, defeating Miguel Cotto by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBC, The Ring and lineal middleweight titles. It was a solid victory for Alvarez as Cotto is an experienced and notable opponent. Alvarez also secured a win against James Kirkland last year, winning that one by knockout in the third round. The 25-year-old turned pro in 2005 and went undefeated for his first 43 bouts, fighting to a draw against  Jorge Juarez early on in his career. He suffered his first and only loss of his career in September 2013 when he fell by majority decision to world champion fighter Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in Las Vegas. His second loss of his career came in 2011 when he fell by split decision to Lamont Peterson where Khan momentarily lost his WBA (Super) and IBF light-welterweight titles. However, Peterson failed a drug test following the fight and Khan was renamed the champion. The English boxer also lost to Danny García in July 2012, losing that fight by technical knockout in the fourth round.
