College Baseball Regionals

The first step to the 2019 College World Series starts in the regionals where 64 teams battle for the right to be crowned a National Champion. Those teams fortunate enough to qualify for the NCAA Baseball Tournament start play in a four-team regional, with the winner of the double-elimination bracket advancing to the next step, the Super Regionals.

The 16 regional brackets will run from Thursday, May 31 through Monday, June 3, if necessary. All of the action from the first pitch of the tournament through the last pitch of the College World Series can be found on the ESPN family of networks.

NCAA Baseball Regional Format

The field of 64 is made up of 31 conference winners, who receive an automatic berth, along with 33 at-large selections. The first stretch of the NCAA Baseball Tournament is arguably the toughest to get through. Before the field of 64 is announced, the Selection Committee puts out its list of 16 regional hosts. Those teams are almost always No. 1 seeds in their own regions. Since regional sites are typically geographic, if there aren't enough times in one particular area of the country, a team might actually be hosting a regional as a No. 2 seed.

Before announcing who will make the field, the Selection Committee unveils the order of the top eight seeds. Those teams will earn the right to host Super Regionals should they advance past their own region. If that team is knocked out of the tournament in its regional, the two teams who advance into that regional then bid for the rights to host Super Regionals.
