Triple Crown Betting Online: The Churchill Downs racetrack will be in the spotlight once again this year. The Kentucky Derby will kick off the Triple Crown racing at this track in May. The Kentucky Oaks will once again be held on the day before. Churchill Downs is located in Louisville, Kentucky and was built back in 1975.
It has held some of the most memorable races, with Secretariat setting the track record while American Pharoah coming through as the most recent winner on his way to the Triple Crown. Churchill Downs has also hosted the Breeders Cup eight times previously, the most recent of which coming in 2011.
Churchill Downs has a dirt oval main track which is one mile in circumference. The Kentucky Derby is raced on this track. There is also another track which is turf and seven-eighths of a mile inside the dirt one. The capacity is 120,000 people and is regularly packed for the Kentucky Derby.
The Horseplayers Association of North America rated 65 thoroughbred racetracks in 2009 and Churchill Downs came in at No. 5. That gives an idea of how high in esteem the track is held.
While Churchill Downs has been around since 1875, it underwent a $121 million renovation from 2001 through 2005. There were 79 luxury suites added, while there is a 36-foot mural which includes paintings of each of the winning jockeys. It is updated each year when new jockeys break through.
While the Churchill Downs racetrack is the main attraction, there is a lot of history. In order to explain all of the history behind it, there is a Kentucky Derby Museum which is open year-round. A high-definition big screen was added to the stadium which is 171 feet wide and 90 feet high. It allows patrons to watch the races and checked in as the biggest Jumbotron ever when it was constructed.
Churchill Downs has great history, with horses like Secretariat, Affirmed, Seattle Slew, War Admiral and most recently American Pharoah becoming stars on this stage. The Kentucky Derby has been a huge event for years and the track has remained a viable location by renovating the grounds. Churchill Downs is looking forward to many more years of memorable horse races.
