Stradivari Belmont Stakes Betting OddsBelmont Stakes Betting: You probably don't even remember Multiplier running in the Preakness Stakes. He started off the race at the back of the pack and never made all that much in the way of headway to the top of the field. Now, he's coming back for the Belmont Stakes and is hoping that the additional distance can give him a little more time to get to the head of the pack from his deep closing position.

The Belmont Stakes will go to post on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 6:50 p.m. ET at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. Catch the Belmont Stakes live on NBC.

Multiplier

Career Record: 2-1-1 ( 5 Races )

Career Earnings: $187,310

Belmont Stakes Odds at BookMaker.eu: +2000

Multiplier had hit the board in each of his career races before finishing sixth at the Preakness Stakes. Most didn't fall into the trap, but there were several who did. Multiplier was one of the longer shots on the board that day but was pretty well bet, improving to 20 to 1 after opening up at 30 to 1 on the morning line odds. Positioning helped Multiplier for sure on the rail, but the public money that was bet on him for that reason or for his 104 Beyer Speed Rating in his Illinois Derby win were sorely punished.

Multiplier is now opening at +2000 to win the Belmont Stakes, and we have a feeling that's about where he's going to end up when push comes to shove.

Why Multiplier Will Win the Belmont Stakes

No matter what style any horse runs in the Belmont Stakes, there's no such thing as knowing if a thoroughbred who has only run in five races in his career can run a mile and a half. We don't know it about Classic Empire. We don't know it about Epicharis. We don't know it about Tapwrit. And we don't know it about Multiplier.

But what we do know is that deep closers have a lot more time to get things done in the Belmont than in the other legs of the Triple Crown, and it isn't out of the ordinary to see ponies come out of nowhere to ultimately win this race.

That's what you're betting on for the most part with Multiplier more than anything else.

Why Multiplier Won't Win the Belmont Stakes

The first time Multiplier ran against any serious three-year olds, he was put aside badly at the Preakness Stakes. The colts he beat at the Illinois Derby were nothing to write home about.

The other main factor here is that Multiplier probably isn't as strong of a closer as Lookin At Lee is. Not only is Multiplier going to have to ultimately figure out how to go past the rest of the field at the Belmont Stakes, but he's going to have to fend off Lookin At Lee as well. These two essentially ran the same race at the Preakness. Lookin At Lee finished fourth, two spots ahead of Multiplier. That's not a good sign going forward.

The Final Verdict

Multiplier is a longshot for sure, but the Belmont Stakes is the race where longshots thrive. There's no doubt that you'd be taking a big chance on Multiplier sticking him in your exotics. There's a real chance that he could ultimately win this race if he ultimately proves to be the only one who can cover this distance.

If we're being more realistic though, this isn't anything more than a horse to become fodder for one of the more serious contenders. Multiplier is a Grade 3 horse at best as we see it, and we don't think he's going to be getting many more opportunities at the Grade 1 level after a back-of-the-pack finish at the Belmont Stakes.
