Grammy Awards Betting

Founded in 1959 the Grammy Awards are presented by The Recording Academy in recognition of achievement in the music industry. “Grammy” is short for gramophone and the trophy itself is a beautiful gilded gramophone. The Gammy Awards hold the distinction of being one of the four major American entertainment award programs along with the Academy Awards (“Oscars”), Emmy Awards, and the Tony Awards. Additionally, the Grammy Awards are the second of the Big Three American major television networks music programs held annually with the other two being the American Music Awards that take place each autumn and the Billboard Music Awards that are held each summer. Since 1973 the CBS Network has televised the Grammy Awards. In 2020, as is usually the case, the Grammy Awards were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Madison Square Garden in New York is the only other venue that has hosted the Grammy Awards in recent years.

62nd Annual Grammy Awards Recap

Tragedy and controversy took over the Grammy Awards in January of 2020. A week and a half before the Grammy Awards show the president of the Recording Academy, Deborah Dugan was fired and placed on administrative leave. She was dismissed for public comments about the Recording Academy being ripe with corruption and favoritism. Subsequently on the actual day of the Grammy Awards presentation Kobe Bryant was killed with several others, including his daughter, in a helicopter crash. Host Alecia Keys and Boyz II Men dedicated their performances with a special tribute to Bryant during the show.

As for Dugan’s ouster it was almost a guarantee to happen before she even started. The culture of the Recording Academy was already cemented in excessive legal fees, cronyism in the leadership structure, voting irregularities, lack of diversity, sexism, conflicts of interest, and a very archaic and incestuous attitude of things always being done a certain way. Overall Dugan’s experience was one that proved just how hard it will be to change this organization that is very set in its ways and known as “an old boy’s network.”
