The men’s side of the Rogers Cup looks to be very top heavy with Nadal and Federer the top two seeds. Dominic Thiem is the third seed, while Alexander Zverev is the fourth seed. The remaining seeds are Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, Grigor Dimitrov, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, David Goffin, Tomas Berdych, Pablo Carreno Busta, Roberto Bautista Agut, Lucas Pouille, John Isner, Jack Sock and Nick Kyrgios. A number of top players withdrew from this tournament before it began, including Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka.

The women’s top two seeds are Pliskova and Halep. The rest of the seeds are Angelique Kerber, Garbine Muguruza, Elina Svitolina, Caroline Wozniacki, Johanna Konta, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Venus Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, Dominika Cibulkova, Jelena Ostapenko, Kristina Mladenovic, Petra Kvitova, Anastasija Sevastova and Elena Vesnina. All of the top ten players in the latest world rankings are in the field, although it should be noted Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are not participating.

Players To Bet

Rafael Nadal – The second-ranked player in the world has a chance to move past top-ranked Andy Murray if he makes the semifinals of this event. Nadal dominated the clay-court portion of the schedule and now he can move past Murray in the rankings. Nadal is 46-7 this year. Nadal can take advantage of a relatively weak field with Murray, Djokovic and Wawrinka out of action.

Simona Halep

The defending champion is Halep and there is no reason she can’t defend her title. She is ranked No. 2 in the world and her draw is favorable. She opens up against either Madison Keys who has struggled with injury or Mirjana Lucic-Baroni. Halep would then probably get No.13 seed Kristina Mladenovic, and then perhaps a match against No.12 seed Jelena Ostapenko.

Johanna Konta

We should get some good value on Konta who is ranked No. 7 in the world. She has done well in the past at the Rogers Cup with a 3-1 record. She is 35-11 in her matches this season and has reached the semifinals five times this year, winning two titles.

Players To Fade

Juan Martin Del Potro

The only time Del Potro has made the semifinals of a tournament this year came in February at Delray Beach. He has had a lot of difficult draws and that will be the case again in Montreal, as he opens against No. 14 seed John Isner who has won his last eight matches. Even if Del Potro manages to get past Isner, he would probably face Nadal in the third round. Del Potro is 1-7 against players ranked in the Top 10 this year.

Venus Williams

It has been an amazing year for Venus who is 26-8 but she has struggled at the Rogers Cup in the past with a 6-7 record in her 13 previous matches. She could be overvalued this week based on her success this year, as he is up to No. 9 in the world.

Jelena Ostapenko

The French Open champion doesn’t go under the radar any longer. She will be making her summer hardcourt debut in Toronto. Ostapenko told WTA Insider that she realizes players are more focused against her now than in the past. "I have more confidence, but I also have more pressure because people expect more from me as a French Open champion. Other players prepare even better against me, and everyone wants to beat me. Ostapenko has a dangerous draw with players like Caroline Garcia, Julia Goerges, and Svetlana Kuznetsova possible in the first three rounds.
