Little change in men's and women's French Open odds through first two rounds

2015-French-Open-Update,-Adjusted-Odds

Day 4 at the French Open is in the books, and many of the top players in the world have already made it through at least one, and if some cases, two matches.

The French Open odds haven't changed all that much through these opening rounds, though there is a clearer path for some going forward at this point which could present good value.

MEN'S FRENCH OPEN ODDS

Novak Djokovic -127
Rafael Nadal +450
Andy Murray +900
Roger Federer +1250
Kei Nishikori +1450
Stanislav Wawrinka +3450
Tomas Berdych +3550
Gael Monfils +6050
David Ferrer +7050
Field (Any Other Player) +2000

The big change here on the men's side of things is that Rafael Nadal, in spite of the fact that he did get through his first match against Frenchman Quentin Halys, has actually moved from a +350 second choice to a +450 second choice of the oddsmakers. The match wasn't a brilliant one for Nadal even though he did win in straight sets, as he committed 13 unforced errors. If that continues, he could be in some trouble down the line.

The position for Nadal actually got a little stronger in the opening round of the tournament as well. The clay master won't have to face No. 10 seeded Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round of this tournament after he was knocked out by American Jack Sock in straight sets. It’s entirely possible that Nadal won't have to face a ranked player until he runs into top-seeded Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.

Things for the rest of the top seeds still look alright. Djokovic has held firm at -127, while Roger Federer had no issues getting into the third round. Still, it's tough to see the No. 2 seed getting through a stretch which could include Gael Monfils, Stanislav Wawrinka, Andy Murray and Djokovic to win this tournament.

WOMEN'S FRENCH OPEN ODDS

Serena Williams +205
Maria Sharapova +325
Victoria Azarenka +1550
Petra Kvitova +950
Garbine Muguruza Blanco +2550
Caroline Wozniacki +2750
Ana Ivanovic +3550
Sara Errani +7550
Carla Suarez Navarro +1550
Sloane Stephens +5050
Andrea Petkovic +10050
Angelique Kerber +2550
Samantha Stosur +3550
Lucie Safarova +7250
Flavia Pennetta +18050
Svetlana Kuznetsova +4050
Madison Keys +6750
Sabine Lisicki +9550
Alize Cornet +8050
Ekaterina Makarova +7050
Kristina Mladenovic +15050
Elina Svitolina +9050
Field (Any Other Player) +1658

The women's French Open odds have changed just a bit, knowing that Simona Halep was an early exit from the tournament. That really opened up the draw for Elina Svitolina and Alize Cornet, one of which very likely will be in the quarterfinals of this tournament at this point and could feature strong odds.

Halep getting knocked out in Round 2 also cleared the path for Maria Sharapova, who has taken the most noticeable move from +440 to +325 in the opening two rounds. The big problem we see with Sharapova though, is that she is going to have to play against nothing but ranked players the rest of the way in this tournament in all likelihood, starting with a ridiculous third round draw against Samantha Stosur, who has only dropped a total of five games in this tournament.

Serena Williams remains the favorite in the French Open and will stay that way until or unless she is knocked out. There really shouldn't be a tough match here down the line, though it is at least very intriguing to think about the possibility of a fourth round match against American Sloane Stephens, who eliminated Serena's sister, Venus Williams from the French Open in the opening round.
