Soccer Odds - Trinidad and Tobago vs. Mexico Match Preview

2017-Trinidad-&-Tobago-vs.-Mexico-(beIN-Sports)-Betting-Lines

Trinidad & Tobago probably saved its World Cup Qualifying campaign by taking a crucial three points at home against Panama on Friday night. Three nights later though, the task gets a heck of a lot harder. This Mexico team wants to make sure that it locks up its place in the World Cup as quickly as possible to take the pressure off of Juan Carlos Osorio, and three points here in Port of Spain would make that task a lot easier.

At 8 p.m. ET, tune into beIN Sports for live television coverage of this World Cup Qualifying match on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Odds Analysis

El Tri looked the part of the best team in CONCACAF on Friday night at home against Costa Rica, and that parlayed with its name is why Mexico is favored here by a full goal on the Asian Handicap against a sometimes dangerous T&T outfit. The price to beat is -175 on the moneyline, while a second straight Trinidadian victory would pay off a cool price of +440.

Totals in these World Cup Qualifiers in the Hex have been incredibly low, and why not? Sure, the average match has had 2.56 goals per game in it through the first nine matches, but let's not forget that the Americans have been involved in three of the over matches. Matches involving other teams? Just one has gone over the total, that being Honduras vs. Trinidad on November 15. The total to beat this time around sits at a flat 2.5.

Recent Form

Credit where credit is due for the Mexicans. Seven points in three matches in the Hex puts them in a position to have no drama for the World Cup in 2018 as there has been at times in recent World Cup Qualifying efforts. Sure, they put together a bit of a dud at Panama, but this is their third road test in four games, and even a point in this one will surely leave no doubt about qualifying for the World Cup with six fixtures to go, four of which will come at the fortress known as Estadio Azteca. Mexico's last test was a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica, a strong showing from the home side in which it was always on the front foot in a very exciting first half of play.

Trinidad & Tobago scored just one goal in its first two matches in World Cup Qualifying, and it didn't really look great on the offensive end against Panama on Friday night either. That said, Kevin Molino is one of the top young players on this roster, and he showed well with a stunning goal to give his team its first three points. Better will be needed for sure, knowing that the Trinidadians only have two home matches left when this one is over with, and if the Hex ended today, they'd be on the wrong side of the cut line.

Molino and Kenwyne Jones are the two names to watch for Trinidad & Tobago. These are really the only two men who have a legitimate shot of putting the ball in the back of the net against a team that has played incredibly well on the defensive side of the ball over the course of World Cup Qualifying.

The Mexicans are too good to be beaten in this match, but we wouldn't be stunned if they only mustered a draw as was the case at Panama and should have been the case against the United States. Remember that Javier "Chicarito" Hernandez has a thigh injury and is a question mark for this match, while Rafa Marquez and Jurgen Damm have both been ruled out already. Those are some big blows to a good lineup, and we're just not 100 percent certain Mexico should be favored by a full ball as a result. We'll have a bit of a safety net in the event of a one-goal loss, but we think T&T can get a point here.
