Overwhelming Brazil could storm to Group E title with win in second match Saturday against Spain on FS1

2015-Brazil-vs-Spain-Betting-Odds

Brazil is one of the handful of teams given any legitimate opportunity to win the 2015 Women's World Cup.

After taking three points from its opening match, the team will head to Montreal, where Spain is going to be waiting in its second World Cup match in team history.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Brazil's toughest match in Group E might very well have been its first one, and it was a test which it passed with flying colors. The Brazilians were favored by a goal and a half and covered thanks to the best women's player on the planet in Marta, and now, they are probably going to be favored by a very similar margin in this match as well.

A point for Brazil would effectively be enough to get into the next round of the competition, but at this point, only winning Group E matters to Marta and the gang, so expect to see the Brazilians go for broke.

Spain meanwhile, was a catastrophic disappointment in its first ever World Cup match. La Roja were favored by 2.5 goals over Costa Rica, another team making its World Cup debut, but in the end, the teams split the spoils with a goal apiece.

That's why it's really tough to believe that Spain, a team which few know anything about, will be anything but a massive underdog.

However, with the way which Spain plays parked at the back, it would be foolish to think that the total could ultimately be all that high.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"We knew that the Costa Ricans would be highly organized and keep their shape well, defending as a unit and closing the ball down quickly. We tried to attack down the wings as much as possible. I think we controlled the game and created the better chances, but we couldn't maintain that level of intensity, and, more importantly, we failed to take the chances we created. And in a tournament like this one, you pay the price for mistakes like that." – Spain manager Ignacio Quereda on what went wrong against Costa Rica on Tuesday

RECENT FORM

That 1-1 draw for Spain was a huge disappointment, and it creates a real uphill battle just to get into the knockout rounds. A point from this match, of course, would lift spirits a ton with what could be a do-or-die fixture with South Korea looming. The Spanish are now 7-5-0 in their last 12 matches overall, but their lack of terrific competition has most assuming that that 12-game unbeaten run is about set to come to a close.

Brazil is now 6-2-2 in its last 10 matches overall after clocking South Korea 2-0 on Tuesday. We will have a lot more fear when it comes to the ladies in yellow going up against some of the top sides in this tournament, but the bottom line for Brazil is that it consistently puts aside the teams which it really needs to beat.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Spain proved to us that it isn't just a one-woman team in attack against Costa Rica, as it wasn't just a matter of Veronica Boquete streaking down the pitch time and time again. La Roja had a number of ladies in the attack time and time again, especially down the wings.

The only big problem here is that Marta does a tremendous amount of damage right in the middle of the park, and that could be an issue for Spain if it gets caught out wide on counterattacks.

We can't help but wonder if Spain is going to take a few too many chances in this one. The combination of Marta and Formiga coming out of the midfield could be far too problematic for the Spanish to handle, and the end result could be an emphatic victory.

Brazil 3, Spain 0
