Another inspired effort unexpected out of United States against Germany in friendly match Wednesday on FS1

The United States men's national soccer team has had a thrilling summer so far, highlighted by a huge win on Dutch soil last week. The bar will be raised in this one though, as the trip to Germany is going to be absolutely no fun.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Not surprisingly, the Americans are heavy underdogs in this match, but we suspect that perhaps they should be bigger dogs knowing that the quality of these two sides will be unbalanced. The United States is +660 to take the win in 90 minutes in Cologne, a result which would be tabbed as highly unlikely.

Instead, the Germans are -1.5 on the Asian handicap alongside a moneyline price of -265.

After watching seven goals hit the back of the net in the last USA match, it shouldn't be stunning that the over is a very high 3 (over -135).

PROJECTED SIDES

The Americans fielded a very good side in Amsterdam last week, though obviously, their side isn't quite complete. There are still issues at the back, as Timmy Chandler isn't a regular right back, while the midfield was a bit shaky with Alfredo Morales and Aron Johannsson being used. It also didn't help that Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore weren't available and likely will not be for this match either.

The Germans are certainly strong, and we would expect Bastian Schweinsteiger to once again be wearing the captain's armband for this fixture. However, we could see Mario Goetze getting a night off, as could Thomas Muller and Mesut Ozil, knowing that there is a match which counts, qualifying for Euro 2016 against Gibraltar on Saturday.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"I hope that what we are capable of is becoming consistent. We surprised quite a lot of people with that result in Holland, but now it's actually on us to take the same energy, the same approach, the same discipline and tempo against the world champions… It's going to be the highest benchmark that we've experienced so far." – United States manager Jurgen Klinsmann on the approach necessary to take out Germany in this friendly match

RECENT FORM

There's definitely some concern which will have to be in play after the Germans drew 2-2 against Australia in their last friendly match. The results haven't been sterling since the World Cup, as the team is 4-2-2 across all competitions.

The United States has been in respectable form, and that 4-3 win over Holland was truly monumental. Prior to that, the team beat Mexico 2-0 and drew with Switzerland 1-1.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Still, what should be noted about that match against the Dutch is that Holland clearly wasn't playing at its best, and it really should have won the fixture in the 90th minute if not for a ball off of the crossbar. Credit to the Americans for never giving the match up even when they were down 3-1 late on, but Lady Luck played here role in the proceedings as well.

Germany is a much different side to play against, and we foresee Joachim Low not doing any favors to one of Germany's sons in this match. Expect to see the German defense play a much stronger game against the United States than the Netherlands did, and when that turns out to be the case, we could see a very frustrated American side give way for a couple strikes.
