Soccer Odds - Tottenham vs. Newcastle Match Preview

Tottenham-Hotspur-vs-Newcastle-United-Odds

Last week, Newcastle managed to take a major step towards survival when it took three big points against Liverpool. The test this week though, is probably going to end up being too tough against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

ODDS ANALYSIS

It doesn't take a genius to know that Tottenham is expected to win this match by a comfortable margin. The Spurs have been good at home consistently over the course of the last several seasons, and they rarely perform poorly against these relegation-stricken teams.

Tottenham is set at -300 on the moneyline and -1.5 in a week which many of the top teams are playing against the worst in the top flight.

Because the Asian Handicap is so high, the total has to be higher as well. It's not like Newcastle has permanently struggled to score goals this year, as it does have 16 goals in 15 matches (though just three on the road in seven fixtures). The number to beat is 3 and -115 on the under.

KEY INJURIES

The Magpies are dangerously thin already this year, and playing without a number of key players puts them in a perilous position. What's worse is the fact that so many of these players have "unknown" next to their return dates on the injury report. Rolando Aarons, Emmanuel Riviere, Curtis Good, Gabriel Obertan, Massadio Haidara and Tim Krul are all amongst the unknown return dates, while Jamaal Lascelles has a hamstring problem he picked up before the Liverpool match that kept him out of action.

Tottenham is still playing without Nabil Bentaleb, Nacer Chadli and Alex Pritchard, all of which are long term absentees.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"That's what you have to do to win a game in the Premier League. You've got to work really hard and crawl back into the dressing room, and that's what they've done every time we've won and got a result." – Newcastle manager Steve McLaren following a massive upset of Liverpool last Sunday

RECENT FORM

The 2-0 win against the Reds was a shocking result following losses against Crystal Palace and Leicester City by a combined 8-1 score. It was the best result for sure of the year for the Magpies, but they still only have one win on the road, that coming at Bournemouth on November 7.

Under has been the word in Tottenham matches of late. Three straight fixtures have gone under the total for the Spurs, including a relatively lifeless 1-1 draw against West Brom at the Hawthorns. That's the third straight really suspect result for Mauricio Pochettino's side. The team also drew 0-0 against Chelsea and beat FK Qarabag 1-0 in the Europa League. All of the results were at least remotely positive, but better was expected out of a team which hopes for a Champions League spot in 2016-17.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

Toon is just far too beat up at this point to come up with another positive result like it had against Liverpool.

In fairness to Tottenham, it has been the significantly better team on the pitch for the most part every time it has been out there since the middle of October save for an away match at Arsenal in which it got a hard-fought draw.

The Spurs have far more talent here to Newcastle, and they should be able to put this game away relatively early. The Magpies might've had a great result against Liverpool, but they're severely outmanned here on the road. That 1-1-5 record away from St. James' Park is telling, and it's only bound to get worse for Newcastle.
