Soccer Odds - Tottenham vs. Chelsea Match Preview

Tottenham-Hotspur-vs-Chelsea-Nov26

The last time Chelsea seemed to start to pull itself out of the fire in the Premier League, it started with a convincing win against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League. The Israeli team was on the docket for the second time on Tuesday, and the Blues predictably came up with another massive 4-0 win. If they respond going forward on Sunday, Tottenham could be in a lot of trouble, especially with the Spurs having to play on Thursday 5,000 miles away from home in Azerbaijan.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Chelsea as an underdog in an EPL match? It isn't something that you see often, but there's a point that the oddsmakers realize that the Blues are who they are. Right now, they're a bottom of the table team threatened more by relegation than the idea of playing European soccer next season.

Tottenham, who is still fighting at the top of the table, is a +142 favorite and is just barely a favorite on the Asian Handicap as well at PK -125.

The total is modest at 2.5 with a slight lean on the under with -115 vig.

KEY INJURIES

John Terry is very likely not going to be playing in this one after injuring his ankle against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the middle of the week. Ramires also missed that match and is unlikely to debut in Jose Mourinho's lineup.

Erik Lamela is likely not going to be available for the Spurs as he recovers from a groin injury, and he was one of the many left behind from the trip this Thursday to Azerbaijan.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"For us, it is a very important game. Some players who can play have stayed in London, but all the important players available, who we believe can win the game tomorrow, are here." – Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino on the side he has picked for his match against Qarabag in Azerbaijan, some 5,000 miles away from London

RECENT FORM

Tottenham came back from the international break in fine form, winning 4-1 at home against West Ham last weekend. The team has really had nothing but favorable results of late, drawing on the road at Arsenal and cruising past both Aston Villa and Bournemouth to give it 10 points in its last four Premier League fixtures.

Chelsea has suddenly had two positive results in a row. The Blues knocked off Norwich City at home, albeit in a rather uninspiring 1-0 effort. They were much more convincing though, on the road in Israel on Tuesday in a 4-0 win. Coming back from Israeli soil won't be easy for sure, but this is nothing that Chelsea isn't used to having played in the Champions League for so many years.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

This is just a nightmarish week for Tottenham, and it had to see this coming from a mile away when it was drawn into a group with Qarabag in the Europa League. Danny Rose, Kyle Walker and Mousa Dembele were left back in London, while Harry Kane isn't like to play in Thursday's match. Still, the travel is just horrible, even if the team is flying on a private jet both directions. It's impossible not to be jetlagged.

Parlay all of that with a Chelsea team which might have finally gotten its legs underneath it, and the makings are here for a mild "upset" to help take the Blues further away from the relegation zone.

Chelsea 2, Tottenham 0
