Soccer Odds - Northern Ireland vs. Germany Match Preview

Euro-2016-Northern-Ireland-vs.-Germany-Betting-Odds

Germany is pretty much on easy street at this point. Three points against Northern Ireland seems like a given, and barring a crazy Poland victory over Ukraine in a match running concurrently, those three points will be enough to win Group C.

ODDS ANALYSIS

To say that Northern Ireland isn't likely to score in this match is an understatement. The Green and White Army don't have a great attack as it is, and playing against a team as good as this German side is a daunting task. That's why, in spite of the fact that Germany is favored by nearly two full goals on the Asian Handicap and a -300 margin on the moneyline, the total is set at 2.5 with -135 vig on the over.

TOURNAMENT UPDATE

Bless you boys from Belfast! Northern Ireland was a big underdog in Lyon against Ukraine on Thursday, but it got the job done with a 2-0 victory for its first ever win in the Euros in its history.

Northern Ireland is sitting on three points, and it's now guaranteed to finish third in this group. The only result which will change that in all likelihood is a win, as Poland would have to lose to Ukraine to give Northern Ireland a chance to move up to second with a point.

We'll discuss Germany's draw against Poland a little bit more in a second, but it's tough to argue with the results from the first 180 minutes in France. The team has four points from two fixtures, and as long as a disaster is averted against Northern Ireland, it'll win this group. The only things that will change that are a loss (which would almost certainly leave Germany in a shocking third in Group C) or a Poland victory over Ukraine by a healthy amount of goals.

LIVE BETTING

This German team really doesn't have a true striker on it. World Cup hero Mario Gotze is as close as it gets, but he's really not suited to play up front in a 4-5-1 which really more closely resembles a 4-6-0.

It's a tactic which has been interesting to follow for Joachim Low. He knew that this group was always going to be offensively challenged, and playing a possession game was the ticket to making sure Germany didn't fall victim to any major upsets.

Surely, nothing is going to change in this match. Germany is going to continue to do what it does, and that should leave plenty of frustrating stretches for bettors. You'd like to think a team of Germany's caliber should be able to run roughshod on Northern Ireland, but Low is going to surely instruct his team to just stick to the plan and take the chances when they're available.

QUICK PICK

And it's hard to see how said plan won't work. Whether it be Gotze, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Andre Schurrle, Lukas Podolski, Thomas Muller or Mesut Ozil, someone is bound to break the ice in this match at some point.

Does Northern Ireland really stand a chance to put one in the back of the net in this match? It's tough to see with just one man going forward more often than not in Conor Washington. Jerome Boateng has been a monster at the back for the Germans, and if he neutralizes Washington as could easily be the case, Northern Ireland could legitimately not have one excellent chance at the target in this match.
