Soccer Odds - Germany vs. Cameroon Match Preview

Germany-vs.-Cameroon-FOX-bm

Cameroon has made its own life horrible. The Indomitable Lions are in a position where they have to win to reach the knockout rounds of the Confederations Cup. That said, at least they're still breathing with 90 minutes left to play. That said, Germany doesn't figure to be backing off in a match where it knows a point will send it into the semifinals of this tournament.

At 11 a.m. ET, tune into FOX for live television coverage of this Confederations Cup match on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi.

Odds Analysis

Cameroon needs to go for broke here, and that figures to not work out all that well for it. The team is 7 to 1 to win this match, and even getting three points won't guarantee putting it through. The Lions are going to have to win by two goals to guarantee advancement. Anything less, and they're going home.

Germany is a -250 favorite to get the job done and secure three points to advance. The Germans aren't quite granted the same luxury as Cameroon. Should they lose by any margin, they'll be scoreboard watching. They'll need Chile to at least get a point against Australia at that point to get through.

The total of 3 is proof of how open this match might end up being. The exuberant German side will probably not be able to contain itself if this match truly opens up.

How They Got Here

It's hard to say that either of these teams have done anything that you wouldn't have expected.

Germany did the job it was set out to do in its first two matches. Joachim Low will probably be a little disappointed by just getting a draw against Chile on Thursday night, but in the end, the team has four points through two matches. Beating Australia in the first match of the group stage really set it up for success.

Cameroon never really had a shot against Chile in its opening fixture, and that 2-0 loss really set it up for a disaster. The Lions did come back for a point against Australia, but in truth, the result of that match probably didn't matter. Germany and Chile were both destined to end up with at least six points from Group B, and with that turning out to be the case, this was always going to be a fruitless tournament for Africa's representative.

Outside of New Zealand, don't think there's been a worse team here in the Confederations Cup than Cameroon. The AFCON champs have just one goal in 180 minutes, that coming from Andre Zambo Anguissa more or less against the run of play.

Against a better team on Thursday night, Cameroon would have been beaten by probably two or three goals. Against Chile in the opener, it probably should have been crippled by four or five. The team has gotten very lucky in the grand scheme of things, and we don't see Germany ultimately giving up those chances.

This is just the match that Low has been waiting for. The Germans have been bright every step of the way, thinking about pushing forward quite a bit. Emre Can and Julian Draxler have been great leaders for this young roster. Lars Stindl has scored in each of the first two matches of the Confederations Cup, and we'd fancy him to pick up a third here in this one. Cameroon is in for a fight just to stay in this one with half a shout. We don't think it stands a chance.
