Soccer Odds - Cameroon vs. Chile Match Preview

2017-Confederations-Cup-Cameroon-vs.-Chile-(FS1)-Bet-Online

The decisive match of Group B could end up being its very first affair. Chile and Cameroon are considered to be the bubble teams of the bunch in Group B, as one should get into the knockout rounds, while the other may or may not ultimately get the job done. If there's a winner in this one, that team will have a huge leg up on the other the rest of the way in the Confederations Cup.

This Confederations Cup duel will go down Sunday, June 18, 2017, at 2 p.m. ET at Otkrytiye Arena in Moscow. The match will be televised live on FOX Sports 2.

Odds Analysis

Chile has had some confusing results of late (more on that in a moment), and that's what is prompting some bettors to give the nod to Cameroon as a potential live dog. The Indomitable Lions are set at +400 on the moneyline and have been a popular play at and around that price. The Chileans are down to -140 on the moneyline and could dip farther as kickoff approaches.

As is the case in so many of these matches early in big tournaments, the total here is low, set at 2.5 with -135 vig on the under.

Roster Analysis

The Chileans have won Copa America in consecutive years, and this will be a legitimate chance to capture a third major piece of silverware in three years. They've got Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez on the roster, and those two men can really guide any team to good form. But don't discount Eduardo Vargas and Charles Aranguiz as well. These two men played a key role in Copa America Centenario, and both should be at the forefront here in the Confederations Cup as well.

This Cameroon side is a far greater question mark. The Lions have a legitimate superstar in Vincent Aboubakar, the Beskitas striker who has been garnering a lot of attention from top clubs in Europe. Aside from that though, there isn't a lot here to be wondering about. Benjamin Moukandjo is a definitive offensive threat out of the midfield, but the real questions come at the back and in net. Fabrice Ondoa is going to man the pipes in all likelihood. He has 32 appearances for his country at the age of just 21, but his play has left a lot to be desired.

Recent Form

Cameroon picked up the last spot in the Confederations Cup by winning the 2017 African Cup of Nations. It was a bit of a shocking result over heavily favored Egypt in the final, but maybe we should have expected more from this side. Cameroon's last loss came on May 30, 2016 against France in Nantes, but in fairness, it hasn't played against a team from outside of Africa since that point.

Chile's two most recent matches have left a lot to be desired. The team was beaten on the road against Romania 3-2 and drew Russia in Moscow 1-1 over the course of the last several days. This came on the heels of a 1-0 loss to Argentina in March that helped put the team's World Cup chances in some serious doubt. Things need to turn around for La Roja in a hurry to get them back on track.

Tournament play seems to be suiting Chile just fine at the moment, and we think we're getting a really nice price on it at -140 because of its recent struggles. There could be some testy moments in this match, but the Lions are awfully young and might not be ready for this moment. So long as the Chileans have the desire to claim all three points, we think they'll do so in what might be the kick starter to a nice run in Russia.

Confederations Cup Odds: Chile 3, Cameroon 1
