No. 1: Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey

UFC 193

Peak Line: Holm +1250

$10,000 bet cashout: $125,000

The biggest upset of the year also happened to be the greatest in UFC history, from both a gambling a cultural perspective. Rousey’s dominance and starpower had reached astronomical heights, and her crossover appeal was unprecedented for a cage fighter. Nobody gave Holm much of a chance of dethroning a champion who had made a habit of destroying opponents in less than a minute. What happened next was the MMA equivalent of Tyson-Douglas, a completely unexpected outcome that knocked a king from his perch and no doubt made a few gamblers very happy.

No. 2: Gegard Mousasi vs. Uriah Hall

UFC Fight Night 75

Peak Line: Hall +435

$10,000 bet cashout: $43,500

The fight game is usually not friendly to late-notice replacements, as Uriah Hall was entering his matchup with dark horse contender Gegard Mousasi. What’s more, Hall’s inconsistency and lack of aggression seemed tailor made for Mousasi’s well-rounded skill set. The first round went as expected, with the ranked middleweight taking down Hall within 15 seconds and achieving full mount twice. But in the opening moments of the second, Hall executed a textbook jumping spin kick to Mousasi’s face, putting the contender on wobbly legs. The New York native quickly followed with a flying knee and the bout was quickly stopped.

No. 3 Anthony Pettis vs. Rafael dos Anjos

UFC 185

Peak Line: dos Anjos +405

$10,000 bet cashout: $40,500

Anthony Pettis was perhaps the most dazzling offensive champion in UFC history. Rafael dos Anjos was an unheralded challenger who was steadily improving. I’m sure many sportswriters were prepared to write a few columns on the start of a long title reign for Pettis after his first defense against the Brazilian. What occurred was a beatdown nobody saw coming. There was not a single moment in which Pettis looked competitive, as dos Anjos tagged him the champion with monster shots and seamlessly blended in takedowns to dominate “Showtime” for five full rounds.

No. 4: Maryna Moroz vs. JoJo Calderwood

UFC Fight Night 64

Peak Line: Moroz +600

$10,000 bet cashout: $60,000

JoJo Calderwood was coming off a solid showing in TUF 20, cementing her status as a respected top-10 strawweight and a fearsome striker. Moroz was making her UFC debut an undefeated - albeit untested - fighter. In just 90 seconds, the fight was over. But it was Moroz that blistered the veteran with an unexpected volley of violent strikes, setting up a lightning quick armbar finish.
