UFC-200-Prelims-Picks-2016

We are less than two weeks away from UFC 200, and there’s so much going on that we need to start our previews a week early. This week, we’re focusing on the best prelim fights for the milestone card. And the UFC 200 prelims are so damn appetizing, that it could easily be it’s own stacked Fight Night card.

Welterweights

Johny Hendricks -180 vs. Kelvin Gastelum +140

Yes, former welterweight champion, top-5 contender and multiple-time headliner Johny Hendricks is on the prelims of UFC 200. And he’s coming off the worst loss of his career -- a matchup where he was humiliated and stopped in the first round by Stephen Thompson. Now, he faces a young, hungry prospect who would love to enter the division’s top ranks by scalping the former champ. There is just so much to love about this bout between two hard-hitting dudes with top-notch wrestling chops.

Women’s Bantamweights

Cat Zingano -160 vs. Julianna Pena +120

It’s been over a year since Cat Zingano has competed. In her last bout she got submitted by Ronda Rousey in just 14 seconds. Finally healthy, “Alpha” will look to bounce back from her first career loss against veteran Julianna Pena. If y’all forgot about Cat, she’s one of the most savage fighters in a deep bantamweight division and was long considered the second best fighter at 135. If she recaptures her form against Pena, she’s right back in the title hunt.

MIddleweights

Gegard Mousasi -200 vs. Derek Brunson +160

Will Mousasi ever become a title contender? There’s no question he’s got all the tools, from superb submission savvy to world-class striking. But he’s just never been able to string together a worthy title run -- which is why he’s relegated to the prelims against a tough but unheralded fighter like Derek Brunson. It’s an extremely risky fight for Mousasi, as Brunson is riding an impressive four-fight winning streak -- with the last three coming by way of first-round KO.

Bantamweights

Raphael Assuncao +285 vs. T.J. Dillashaw -405

This is a de facto title eliminator at 135, with former champion T.J. Dillashaw just one fight removed from his failed title defense against Dominick Cruz. The Elevation Fight Team product meets the No. 3-ranked Raphael Assuncao in a matchup that promises plenty of violence. We’ll all be closely watching how Dillashaw bounces back, as many felt that he was primed for a prolonged reign as the champ.

Lightweights

Enrique Marin +245 vs. Sage Northcutt -315

The UFC’s golden boy, Sage Northcutt, was badly exposed by Bryan Barberena in his first career loss. That’s ok -- fight fans can forgive an off-night. But should Northcutt lose for a second straight time against an unknown opponent, you can kiss all of his hype goodbye. And considering how amateur he looked in his last outing, Northcutt probably has the UFC plenty worried going into the bout.

Lightweights

Jim Miller -225 vs. Takanori Gomi +175

Seven blessings to matchmaker Joe Silva for putting this fight together. Does it have any impact on the top-10 at lightweight? Absolutely not. Is it going to be fun? Hell yeah. Consider Gomi the Dan Henderson of 155 -- a fighter that wants nothing more than to land his nuclear right hand and end the fight. Miller is one of those gritty types that can take a ton of punishment and dish it out with equal aplomb.
