UFC odds - Projecting the money lines for Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor

UFC---Nate-Diaz-vs.-Conor-McGregor-projected-odds.ac

It seems like everyone wants a piece of featherweight champion Conor McGregor these days. And while lightweight kingpin Rafael dos Anjos kindly invited the Irishman to 155 after his dominant win over Donald Cerrone, it was Nick DIaz' post-fight callout that stole the show. It's suddenly one of the biggest money fights the UFC could make, and it's an absolutely fascinating matchup. Let's project the odds.

PROJECTED ODDS ANALYSIS

I'd venture that McGregor would be around a 2-to-1 favorite. His recent run against the best featherweights in the world has been nothing short of spectacular. And despite his impressive win over Michael Johnson, Nate Diaz is just 2-3 in his past five fights.

WHY THIS FIGHT NEEDS TO HAPPEN

What separates Nate Diaz' callout from the growing number of fighters that have publicly campaigned for a shot at McGregor? The answer is simple: he's a Diaz. For starters, his post-fight interview was filled with so many f-bombs, on network television no less, that it sounded like one long bleep. One would expect no less from the Stockton duo.

McGregor stated recently that fighting him is a whole different ballgame, and this is entirely true. It's more than just an endless barrage of taunts and headgames. It's an exponential increase in media exposure and obligations. It's also an unparalleled pressure to perform and make Conor eat the words that he'll spew for months leading up to the fight.

But like McGregor, when a Diaz sets his sights on you, it's unlike anything else in MMA. They'll get under your skin in any way possible. Pre-fight brawls, post-fight brawls on national television, post-event brawls at the hospital, middle fingers, pimp slaps - it's all on the table with the Diaz brothers. And that's what makes this matchup so fascinating.

Because if there's one person that will match McGregor antic for antic, it's Nate Diaz. He's possibly the one fighter who could get inside his McGregor's head as much as the champion gets inside his opponents'. Jose Aldo deserves a ton of credit for not snapping and going after McGregor during the buildup to his UFC 194 event. There's no chance that Diaz would do the same.

Joe Rogan joked that promoting a McGregor-Diaz bout would be impossible without prison glass separating the two at every event. I feel the same way. Every time these two met would be must-see TV. And with the way these two talk trash, every media call and press conference would be filled with memorable soundbites. Seriously, what's not to like about that?

Nate Diaz isn't the most deserving fighter for the matchup. Frankie Edgar has a better case. Jose Aldo does as well. Rafael dos Anjos is the lightweight champion and can offer a chance at history. But damned if Diaz isn't the most fascinating fighter to throw his hat into the McGregor sweepstakes.
