Poland’s Jan Blachowicz will rep his home country this Saturday when he meets American Devin Clark on the main card of UFC Fight NIght 118. It’s a high-risk, low-reward matchup for Blachowicz, who is just 1-4 in his past five fights and facing a wrestler in addition to the expectations of a home crowd. However, he’s always been a tough out, and perhaps fighting in front of family and friends will give him a boost.

Fight Preview
Blachowicz is big for the weight class, standing 6’2” and filling out his frame nicely. While not a knockout artist, he does have a lot of natural power in his strikes. At distance, the 34-year old is extremely technical, throwing stinging jabs, crisp left hooks and thudding round kicks - it only takes a few of these to land clean to hurt his foes.
The problem with Blachowicz is that he’s not very aggressive, and fails to follow up even when he does manage to hit his opponents. There were moments when he had Jimi Manuwa, Corey Anderson and Igor Pokrajac in trouble, but Blachowicz could not capitalize. This is likely do to his cardio issues: stamina has been a recurring problem for the Pole, and he struggles to get through three rounds. There will even be times where he stops his offense completely to try and recharge.
Clark is still a relatively unknown fighter, though he has won his last two UFC fights. Most recently, he bested Jake Collier at UFC on Fox 24, taking a step up in competition. Though he is still developing as a fighter, Clark’s athleticism already gives him a high ceiling. While his kickboxing needs work, he still has enough burst to surprise opponents.
However, Clark likely understands that he can’t beat Blachowicz on the feet. Fortunately, the 29-year old is an able wrestler. While nobody’s mistaking him for Khabib Nurmagomedov or Kevin Lee, Clark shows a nice blast double - though he telegraphs it too much at times. And just for reference, Blachowicz has a meager 50% takedown defense - something that fighters have exploited.
UFC Betting Tips
Blachowicz is big, durable and experienced, but Clark showed in his last fight that he can commit to his wrestling for three rounds and get stronger later on in the fight. That does not bode well for a fighter with poor takedown defense and cardio issues. The pick is Clark to win by unanimous decision.
UFC odds pick: Clark to win at -150
