In the sports betting world, nothing is as satisfying as nailing an underdog pick. Case in point: betting $1000 on Holly Holm at UFC 193 could have possibly netted you $12,000! That’s why we always keep our eye on the underdogs. With the most stacked card of the year taking place tomorrow, it’s time to sort through every fighter projected to lose on the main card.

THE LIVE UNDERDOGS
Jose Aldo +140
Yoel Romero +145
I’m fully convinced that McGregor’s popularity and recent string of flashy victories is making Aldo an underdog. We’re not appreciating the Brazilian’s body of work enough. He has more tools to victory, in particular an underrated wrestling game that can keep the defensively challenged McGregor grounded for large portions of the fight. And if McGregor plans on testing his chin against Aldo, like he did with Mendes, it will end poorly for the interim champion.
Romero’s ridiculous power can end a fight anywhere, any time. The longer he can fend off Souza’s clinches and takedowns, the better chance he has of landing a momentum-turning punch.
THE RISKY UNDERDOGS
Luke Rockhold +145
Gunnar Nelson +115
Warlley Alves +102
Marcio Alexandre Jr. +136
Some might consider Rockhold a live underdog given how he’s looked recently. But Weidman is undefeated for a reason - his combination of athleticism, wrestling and power is nearly impossible to deal with. Gunnar Nelson is a fine fighter, but he’s about to find out why he should be fighting at 155 when he squares up against the bigger, stronger Demian Maia. Against the younger, faster Colby Covington, Warlley Alves is going to have a long night. The Brazilian is a solid fighter, but he doesn’t have the ceiling that Covington does.
UNDERDOGS DEAD IN THE WATER
Jeremy Stephens +295
Frankie Saenz +375
Leonardo Santos +325
Joe Proctor +225
Stephens is outgunned and outclassed against Max Holloway, a blue chip prospect and legitimate featherweight contender. Holloway is just a few fights away from a title challenge, and Stephens is not a guy that can keep up with him. Saenz is also getting fed to a shark in Urijah Faber, who is a huge jump up in competition from the mid-level opponents he’s used to. Santos is a solid fighter, but he’s facing a quickly evolving prospect in Kevin Lee, who shouldn’t have much trouble dispatching the slower Brazilian.
