McGregor Moves to No. 2 in Pound-for-Pound Rankings

2016-UFC-McGregor-Online-Betting-Odds

Conor McGregor is the current UFC champion in two different weight classes but he is not yet the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world as that honor still goes to flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson who has won his last 10 fights including eight title defenses. McGregor is the UFC featherweight and lightweight title holder and he is now No. 2 in the latest pound-for-pound rankings. Let’s take a look at the latest pound-for-pound rankings and the next bout for each fighter in the Top 10.

Pound-for-Pound Rankings

1. Demetrious JohnsonJohnson is 24-2-1 in his career and he has held the top spot for some time in the rankings. He will return to action on December 3 as he takes on the winner of “The Ultimate Fighter 24.”

2. Conor McGregor

McGregor has made a jump up in the rankings after his win over Eddie Alvarez. McGregor now holds two titles and he has proven to be the top draw for the UFC. He also has no qualms about telling everyone how good he is saying, “I feel good at all (weight classes). I’m dominating the featherweight division and I’m dominating 155 now, you know what I’m saying?” McGregor said. “I have no problem going to 170. I’ve been sizing them up and they’re not on my level either.” McGregor will not fight next until May of 2017 at the earliest.

3. Jon Jones

Jones has lost just once in his career as he is 22-1 but he hasn’t seen any recent action and he won’t anytime soon. He has been suspended and will not fight in the UFC until at least July of 2017. He will be in action in a grappling match against Dan Henderson at Submission Underground 2 in Portland, Oregon on December 11.

4. Dominick Cruz

You can make a case that Cruz should be ranked No. 2 as he has won his last 13 fights. Cruz will get a chance to impress everyone in late December as he takes on Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207. Cruz is listed as a -210 favorite vs. Garbrandt at BookMaker.eu. Cruz said he will have no trouble against Garbrandt, "I'm going to mix it up, keep you guessing so much that at the end of it, you're going to just wish that I would put you out of your misery," Cruz said, “I'm just going to keep tagging you up and making you look silly. Step by step, minute by minute, round by round, until you beg me to stop you."

5. Daniel Cormier

Cormier is 18-1 in his career with his only loss coming to Jones. Cormier will be in action next at UFC 206 on December 10 when he faces Anthony Johnson.

6. Jose Aldo

Aldo is 26-2 in his career and the interim featherweight title holder. He would like to fight McGregor next but that doesn’t seem likely with McGregor out until the middle of next year. Aldo would actually like to retire but his manager and coach Andre Pederneiras said that is not going to happen as the UFC would not give him an unconditional release. It seems likely that Aldo will face the winner of Anthony Pettis vs. Max Holloway sometime next year.

7. Stipe Miocic

The current heavyweight champion is 16-2 in his career. He is awaiting his next opponent.

8. Khabib Nurmagomedov

“The Eagle” has done nothing wrong in his career as he is 24-0 but he has yet to get a title shot. He really wants a title shot against Conor McGregor but he may have to wait in line for that chance if it ever comes.

9. Tyron Woodley

Woodley fought to a draw against Stephen Thompson which takes Woodley’s record to 16-3-1. It would seem logical that Woodley and Thompson will have a rematch early next year.

10. Anthony Johnson

Johnson is 22-5 in his career. He gets a big chance to move up the rankings as he takes on Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 206 in December.
