NHL Odds - Flyers at Blackhawks Game Preview

2016-NHL-Flyers-at-Blackhawks-Betting-Odds

The Chicago Blackhawks will try and break a three-game losing streak to the Philadelphia Flyers when the teams meet on Tuesday night in a game that can be seen on NBCSN. The Flyers will be finishing up a three-game road trip that has gone pretty well as Philadelphia has a win and an overtime loss for a total of three points. The Blackhawks are 1-2 but they are coming off a 5-3 win at home against Nashville on Saturday night.

Don't miss the ice action from the United Center at 8:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. Catch every moment of the game live on NBCSN.

We'll have NHL odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the NHL Tuesday schedule.

Odds Analysis

The Blackhawks will be listed as home favorites in this contest even though they have dropped the past three meetings against the Flyers. This is not a great spot for the Flyers as it is the close of a three-game road trip, plus Philadelphia will be looking forward to playing their home opener on Thursday against Anaheim. The one positive for Philly is that they have had two days off since playing in Arizona on Saturday night.

The Flyers were just 18-23 on the road last season while Chicago has traditionally been a strong home club. The Blackhawks were 26-15 on home ice last season. The Blackhawks should be listed in the range of -150 to -160 home favorites in this contest with the total at 5 or 5.5.

Special Teams

The Flyers have been able to score goals so far this season (7 in their first two games) even though their power play has been awful. Philadelphia is 0 for 6 this season on the power play as they were 0 for 2 in the opener and 0 for 4 on Saturday in Arizona. It is somewhat surprising the Flyers have started so slowly on the power play as they were 11th in the league a year ago at 18.9%.

One factor that shouldn’t be ignored with the Flyers lack of success is the absence of center Brayden Schenn who has missed the first two games because of three-game suspension. He will also miss this game on Tuesday and the Flyers have missed his presence on the power play.

Something has to give in this contest as the Blackhawks have been sickening on the penalty kill so far this season. The Blues dominated on the power play against the Blackhawks and Nashville had a lot of success as well. The Blackhawks have barely killed half of their power plays against this season and rank 28th in the league.

On the other side of the ice, the Blackhawks have been decent so far this season on the power play as they are 10th in the league while the Flyers are 9th in penalty killing.

Key Stat

This series has not been the domination by Chicago you might think as the Flyers have won six of the last ten including the last three. The teams met twice last season and the Flyers took both games, winning 3-0 at home and 3-2 in Chicago. Philadelphia has split the last four games in Chicago with only one of the four going over. It has been a surprisingly low scoring series overall with three of the last five going under with two pushes.

Free NHL Picks

The situation definitely does not favor the Flyers as they are finishing up a road trip and also looking forward to their home opener on Thursday. The Blackhawks have normally been a very good team at home and they are coming off a win on Saturday night against Nashville. I will look for Chicago to get the home win on Tuesday night and I will also take the game over the total.

NHL Odds: Blackhawks 4, Flyers 2
