NHL Odds - All-Star Game Preview

NHL-Betting-Predictions

The NHL All-Star Game takes place on Sunday afternoon in Tampa, Florida and it will have the same 3-on-3 format as last year, with four teams and three games, with the first game at 3:30 p.m. Eastern, the second game at 4:30 p.m. Eastern, with the winners meeting in the final at 6:30 p.m. Eastern. The winning team in the Skills Competition on Saturday gets to choose which team they want to play in the first game and whether or not they want to play the first semifinal or the second. All three games will be shown on NBC on Sunday afternoon.

Don't miss the ice action from Amalie Arena at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Catch every moment live on NBC.

We'll have NHL odds at BookMaker.eu available for all three games on the NHL Sunday schedule.

Odds Analysis

The odds on the three games will look a little different. The odds will be near a pick on all three games with a higher total than normal, as the games are shorter and played in a 3-on-3 format. Each of the games is played in two 10-minute halves and the games go directly to a shootout if tied after 20 minutes. Last year it was the Metropolitan Division team winning the title. Looking at the rosters didn’t necessarily help identify the winning team last season but it is still interesting to consider the four teams.

I said earlier that looking at the players on the teams may not be of much help in picking the winner but we really don’t have anything else to go on except for one thing. The All-Star Game will be held in Tampa and the Lightning have been the best team in the league for much of the season. They will have three of their players on the Atlantic Division squad and their head coach. I think continuity helps in 3-on-3 and the Lightning will have Stamkos and Kucherov who should have a lot of success in this format. It sure doesn’t hurt that the Atlantic also has the best goaltender in the league right now in Andrei Vasilevskiy. I lean toward the Atlantic Division among the four squads. I do think that both the Metropolitan and the Atlantic teams are better than either the Central or the Pacific teams and either of those teams will have a bit of a home crowd edge. I like the winner of the Atlantic-Metropolitan game to win the final.
