Making its LIV debut last year, the tournament was a boost for Talor Gooch, who carded consecutive rounds of 10-under at the start and cruised to a three-shot victory. His first LIV victory and the first of two straight took place here when Gooch carded 20-under through 36 holes to lead by a whopping 10 swings. He was never threatened in the third round. His record tying three titles came in a span of five tournaments.

Marc Leishman +4000

There are several good Australian players in the field and I actually have two in this section. Anything to get an advantage and playing on home soil on a course that?s still new to many is a good one. Leishman comes up first in the alphabetical list and because he has longer odds than Cam Smith, whom I?ll discuss later. Leishman is coming off one of his finest LIV outings earning a share of fourth in Miami, his fourth top 5 in his last 12 overall starts.

Louis Oosthuizen +2000

It?s been a nice several-months stretch for Oosthuizen, who can put a bow on things with a LIV title. He won back to back titles on the DP World Tour in December and was runner-up on the international series in February. He?s also been toying with a LIV win earning three top 8s, including a co-runner-up in Jeddah last month.

Jon Rahm +650

A T45 at the Masters was the first time outside the top 10 in nine worldwide starts for Rahm proving it happens to the best of players. It also shows you just how consistent he?s been. He?s yet to win a LIV event, though it only seems like a matter of time. And it hasn?t been for a lack of effort. Rahm finished among the top 8 in all five starts with three of those in the top 5.

Cameron Smith +1100

When you raise the bar so high it becomes more difficult to clear it. It?s not smith has been bad, which he hasn?t been by the way, rather so much is expected of him when he goes eight months without a win something has to be wrong. That?s not the case and Smith is trending in right direction with a playoff loss at LIV Golf Hong Kong and a T6 at the Masters. Smith is another of the Australian lads competing with three of his career victories coming in his native land.

Course: The Grange Golf Club ? 6,946 yards, par 72

LIV Golf makes its second visit to The Grange in South Australia. One of the most prestigious clubs around it features two internationally rated championship golf courses which will both be used this weekend. The layout features a composite made up of holes from the East and West courses with an approximate range of less than 7,000 yards. That?s a rough estimate and the length could vary but either way it?s short by pro standards. LIV Golf Commissioner Greg Norman had input on the design and will certainly be more popular than ever with players this week. In typical Norman style the course features tree-lined fairways, plenty of bunkers and average-sized undulating greens. Gooch was on fire last year opening with a pair of 62s to withstand a final round collapse. In all more than half the field finished at 10-under or better.

TV Coverage: CW Network

BookMaker offers play-by-play betting odds for live sporting events every day! A repeat stop, The Grange Golf Club was Talor Gooch?s personal playground last year. Going 10-under in each of the first two rounds lifted Gooch to the first of two consecutive titles and three overall that came in a span of just five tournaments helping him capture the individual points championship. Aussie Cameron Smith and Bryson DeChambeau were the top finishers at Augusta sharing sixth place while outright favorite Jon Rahm was an uncharacteristic T45 at Augusta. More than half the 48-player field ended the 54-hole tournament at 10-under or better and all but two players finished even-par or better. Not a lot has changed in the last 12 months with the layout again using a composite of two championship courses on the property. Essentially the back nine of each course will be used with the exception of one hole. In all, the total yardage is less than 7,000 giving bangers a week off. Accuracy off the tee with tight tree-lined fairways is important as is strong iron play and, of course, putting. The club hosted the 2016 and 2019 Women?s Australian Open with winners scoring 16- and 17- under across 72 holes. Short by pro standards, the course has plenty of bunkers serving as a defense.

LIV Golf Adelaide Matchup Picks

Jon Rahm -115 vs. Joaquin Niemann

Backing Rahm does make sense. Not only is he one of the top players in the world the odds aren?t as bad as they?ve been in other tournaments. Here?s the thing: I think Rahm was anxious at the Masters as defending champ in his first season with LIV Golf prompting a T45. Now with that over I think Rahm will be back to his deadly self, which is also why I also backed him in the outright market.

Cameron Smith +117 vs. Bryson DeChambeau

Smith is playing exceptional golf leading into this homecoming and at plus odds he?s worth the risk. I was startled at the odds for this matchup with Smith a considerable underdog. The two finished tied for sixth at Augusta giving Smith top 10s in his last two completed events and his third in his last five. Smith also tied for third here last year putting on a show for his native fans.

Talor Gooch +109 vs. Tyrrell Hatton

He has yet to duplicate the heater from a year ago, which would be difficult considering Gooch won back-to-back LIV titles and three in a span of five tournaments. He does have six top 10s since winning at Valderrama last July with runner-up finishes in Las Vegas and Jeddah. And he went scorched earth at The Grange carding 62 in each of the first two rounds last year.

Marc Leishman -105 vs. Carlos Ortiz

Another Aussie playing a home game, Leishman is not only on a run of good form he?s proven to be a tough competitor on home soil. Leishman has four career victories in Australia and recently placed third at the DP World Tour?s Australian PGA Championship in December. He is coming off his best finish since that event grabbing a share of fourth at LIV Golf Miami.

Phil Mickelson +117 vs. Andy Ogletree

Every now and then Mickelson throws a curve keeping us on our toes. There was the runner-up finish at the 2023 Masters that kinda came out of nowhere. There was also a T6 in Jeddah last month. What I?m saying is that Lefty still has some juice, though he seemingly conserves it most of the time. He was consistent at Augusta with rounds between 73 and 75 and I like his price.

BookMaker offers play-by-play betting odds for live sporting events every day! Several pairings return from previous events, including the past two winners. Cantlay and Schauffele set the scoring record at 29-under to win the 2022 edition only to see Hardy and Riley card 30-under last year. Do those teams have an advantage? It?s hard to say, but it can?t hurt. The Hojgaard and Coody twins are three sets of brothers scheduled to peg it up with a majority of teams having some connection, including Rory McIlroy, who debuts with fellow Irishman and Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry. Located just outside New Orleans, TPC Louisiana is a scoreable par 72 that stretches to 7,425 yards. Tee to green the layout is relatively easy for pros with a high percentage of fairways and greens hit. The course was altered with new sand and water hazards when it became the permanent host in 2007.

Zurich Classic of New Orleans Matchup Picks

Taylor/ Hadwin +100 vs. Hoge / McNealy

Individually the Canadians have fared well this season and they broke through at this event last year playing as teammates for the first time. They finished two shots off the lead with their cumulative score of 28-under good enough to win four of the previous five playings. Taylor has a win at the Phoenix Open earlier this season and Hadwin has registered a pair of top 5s. They were a dangerous team last year and a good bet at even-money.

Morikawa / Kitayama +117 vs. McIlroy / Lowry

The favorites have long odds in their matchups so I?m looking to see what teams have the best value against them. This one stands out for a few reasons. McIlroy is looking to find his game after finishing outside the top 20 in his previous two starts while Morikawa is in a groove with a podium at the Masters and a solo ninth in the RBC Heritage. Also, Kitayama has been solid all season giving value to this team at its price.

Theegala / Zalatoris +137 vs. Cantlay / Schauffele

With their partnership in big events and their success in New Orleans, it?s hard to bet against Cantlay/Schauffele. However, the team of Theegala/Zalatoris intrigues me at their price. Theegala has been one of the most consistent players on Tour finishing as runner-up at the RBC Heritage, his second this season among five top 10s. And Zalatoris has regained form after a back ailment put him on the shelf. He was fourth here two years ago and has three top 10s in his last six starts.

Hardy / Riley +106 vs. Wallace / Olesen

Individually they haven?t done anything, but when Hardy and Riley teamed up last year the shots were falling. Each player has just one career victory, which came here when the duo set a team scoring record at 30-under. Their lack of success has them at plus odds but playing together seems to bring out the best in them.

Horschel / Alexander -127 vs. Rai / Lipsky

I was hesitant to back the duo of Horschel and Alexander since they are playing together for the first time. It?s hard to ignore what Horschel has accomplished in this tournament, though. He?s the only player to win the individual and team format succeeding in 2013 and with Scott Piercy in 2018. Two years ago he was runner-up with Sam Burns proving it doesn?t matter who Horschel is partnered with.

BookMaker offers play-by-play betting odds for live sporting events every day! However, it?s hard to pass on two of the best players in the field. Neither has won an individual title this season but they?ve been close on several occasions. Despite that the two have paired in several team events including Ryder Cups and Presidents Cups with some success. And they?ve been good in this event winning in 2022 and placing among the top 5 last year.

Rory McIlroy / Shane Lowry +800

He?s had trouble winning on his own this season so McIlroy is teaming with fellow countryman Lowry to take a shot in his tournament debut. I think Rory is looking for a confidence boost after finishing outside the top 20 at the Masters and RBC Heritage. With a more subdued atmosphere and playing alongside his good friend and Ryder Cup teammate, this team has the makings of a winner.

Will Zalatoris / Sahith Theegala +900

Two of the brightest young talents on Tour teaming up make for an intriguing wager. Zalatoris finished fourth at this event with Nick Hardy in 2022 before injuries took away a good chunk of last season. He?s made an impressive return with three top 10s in his last six starts. And Theegala is on the verge of winning an individual title but might have to settle for a team crown first. He was runner-up last week three shots behind Scottie Scheffler.

Billy Horschel / Tyson Alexander +4500

Horschel has been a machine in this event winning as an individual in 2013 and in 2018 with Scott Piercy. He and Sam Burns were runner-up in 2022, but Horschel has a new partner with Burns expecting the birth of a child. Horschel is coming off a win last week in the Dominican Republic and could carry the team, though fellow Florida alum Alexander is no slouch.

Nick Taylor / Adam Hadwin +3200

The Canadian duo makes a strong team could easily be paired when the Presidents Cup heads north of the border later this year. Their first twirl together wasn?t bad with a runner-up showing here last year. Their combined score of 28-under was better than each of the first four winners of this event. For Taylor last year?s result was his second top-10 in four starts while Hadwin earned his first. With the chemistry the two displayed there is plenty more out there.

Course: TPC Louisiana ? 7,425 yards, Par 72

Located just 15 minutes outside of downtown New Orleans, TPC Louisiana has hosted this event since 2005. The overall layout is relatively easy for the pros with a high percentage of fairways and higher percentage of greens hit in regulation. Making things tough are more than 100 bunkers and several water hazards that were installed when the course became the permanent home for this event in 2007. Given the conditions in the south and the vast amount of water, golfers who performed well during the Florida swing of the PGA Tour should feel comfortable here. Weather has been a factor in the past with plenty of delays and showers. We are hoping for better conditions, but this is an area where things change unexpectedly so golfers better be ready.

TV Coverage: Golf Channel, CBS

BookMaker offers play-by-play betting odds for live sporting events every day! Sure there?s the DP World Tour in Europe, the developmental Korn Ferry Tour and of course the Champions Tour for aging veterans. But for those who have game in the prime of their careers, the PGA stop is the only way to go.

That?s all about to change, though, thanks to the deep pockets of a Saudi Arabian-based investment firm ponying up a boatload of money for a breakaway golf league. The new league recently said it plans to stage eight tournaments in 2022. The LIV Golf Invitational Series will start in London in June and feature four events played in the United States with seven regular season tournaments and a team match-play finale championship in late October.

LIV Golf Invitational Series 2022 Schedule

June 9-11 ? London, England

July 1-3 ? Portland, Oregon

July 29-31 ? Bedminster, New Jersey

Sept. 2-4 ? Boston, Massachusetts

Sept. 16-18 ? Chicago, Illinois

Oct. 7-9 ? Bangkok, Thailand

Oct. 14-16 ? Saudi Arabia

Oct. 28-30 - TBD

If money can attract the biggest names in golf the league will have some of the top players. The Series will reportedly offer a combined $255 million in prize money with each of the seven regular season events having a $25 million purse. By contrast the richest tournament on the PGA Tour is THE PLAYERS Championship that offers a $20 million prize pool.

Given Saudi Arabia?s record on human rights many players have already distanced themselves from the upstart venture. Top-ranked players like Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa have already done so while a few others like Bryson DeChambeau came around later.

Still, there were players who have shown an interest in the new concept, most notably Phil Mickelson. Lefty was harshly criticized for comments he made saying he was willing to overlook the country?s crimes in order to change how the PGA Tour operates. Lee Westwood is another player apparently on board with the new venture.

Former professional golfer Greg Norman is the face of the new league. A golf Hall of Famer, 20-time winner on the PGA Tour and former world No. 1 player, he gives it some credibility. And he?s involved for the right reasons. ?I want golf to grow, players to have additional opportunities, and fans to have more fun. My mission is to help the game reach its full potential and we know the role of golf as an entertainment product is critical to overall participation in the sport,? he said in a release.

As of this writing there are no players in the Series. But there is a format for each tournament that differs from the PGA Tour. According to the Series, the first year would cap each event at 48 players with 12 four-man teams determined by a draft the week of the event. ?We?ve done our best to create a schedule that allows players to play elsewhere while still participating in our events. I believe players will increasingly make progress in achieving their right to play where they want,? Norman continued.

There are details that need to be ironed out, most notably getting players on board. And we?ve seen a number of top golfers play tournaments in the Middle East with the hope of getting a chunk of the large prize money. Of course, playing one tournament in Saudi Arabia is much different than playing an entire eight-match season and players certainly don?t want to get hammered the way Mickelson did.

But in the long run money talks. And I?m sure we?ll see some PGA Tour defectors despite the potential fallout. While the PGA Tour doesn?t seem overly concerned at this point, it has said a tour card will be revoked for good for any player that participates in the new league. That doesn?t sound like the PGA Tour is all in on growing the sport.

BookMaker offers play-by-play betting odds for live sporting events every day! Anyone in the field can claim the tournament title but just a handful of players can with the Race to Dubai as the Tour?s top player this season. Collin Morikawa currently leads the R2D and can become the first American to win the season-long rankings. He has the lead playing in just nine counting tournaments. The field lost top European draws Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland leaving a field of 53 players set to attack the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. Rory McIlroy has had all kinds of success in this tournament with a pair of titles on his resume and not surprisingly he opened as the outright favorite. The small field presents a limited number of matchups, but they are doozies featuring some of the best golfers on both the PGA and European Tours. Along with a select number of invites the field has just 53 golfers. With no cut line the entire field will battle for four days at the magnificent Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. The only host this event has ever known plays at 7,675 yards and par 72, and is one of the Middle East?s top courses. The length may seem scary but it really isn?t with wide fairways and large greens keeping balls in play. That?s reflected in past scores with all but one winner carding 15-under or better. Big hitters rock this course but there is something for everyone. The layout offers a variety of holes and requires every stick in the bag.

DP World Tour Championship Matchup Picks

Matt Fitzpatrick -105 vs. Abraham Ancer

The defending champ became a two-time winner with his 1-shot victory last year, and with a chance of winning the R2D crown you can bet Fitzpatrick will let it all hang out. A lot has to go right in order for him to overtake the likes of Collin Morikawa and Billy Horschel, and it starts with him winning the outright. He got into contention with his win in the Andalucia Masters last month. And you can?t ignore his results here; 6 for 6 with two wins and an additional three top-12s. I was surprised to see him at this price and will happily throw down on him in this matchup.

Collin Morikawa +113 vs. Rory McIlroy

I couldn?t pass on a matchup of the top two favorites; I just couldn?t decide who to back. In the end I went with Morikawa because of the plus-odds price. McIlroy has chewed up this course over his career, so I might regret my decision. But I can?t go wrong backing Morikawa, who followed up the Ryder Cup victory with a runner-up in the CJ CUP and a T7 in the ZOZO. In his debut here last year he was T10, so it looks like things are aligned for him to win the R2D race.

Callum Hill -115 vs. Justin Harding

It?s already been a season to remember for Hill, who posted his first ET win a few months ago in the Cazoo Classic. He also flashed his skill in the desert landscape with a T4 earlier this year in Saudi Arabia giving him four top-5s among his seven top-10s this season. Stats wise he?s a nice fit for this layout and we?ve had enough of a sample size to take that into account.

Garrick Higgo -110 vs. Rasmus Hojgaard

Higgo is another player who fits the mold of success on this layout. Wide fairways and big greens will certainly help his mammoth drives and a little touch on the dance floor will have him contending for the outright. Higgo showed he can play at this level with a pair of ET wins and a PGA Tour title in close succession. He got acquainted with the course last year posting a T14 and should be in better shape this time around, which is why I?m backing him.

Tommy Fleetwood -115 vs. Sergio Garcia

Given his history in the Middle East and his success at this course, it?s hard not to back Fleetwood. It hasn?t been a bad season for him; it just hasn?t been what we?re used to seeing. He hasn?t won in two years, but he?s closing the season with a flurry heading to one of his favorite spots on a run of solid form. His T13 at the Dubai Championship last week was his worst finish in his last four ET starts. He won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in back-to-back years and he has three top-10s in his last five DP starts. I think Fleetwood is worth the risk.

BookMaker offers play-by-play betting odds for live sporting events every day!
